Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our Chronic Pain team to develop specialist knowledge, skills and experience in the multidisciplinary management of chronic pain. The post will suit individuals who have completed their core rotations (on a Band 5 Occupational Therapy rotation program, or similar), and already have experience at Band 6 level within a MSK outpatient and/or Pain Management setting who are looking to develop specialist skills in this field. You will be supported by highly specialist senior staff, comprising specialist physiotherapists, clinical psychologists, specialist nurses and Consultants and will have the opportunity to develop both your clinical and interdisciplinary skills working within this tightly knit team. The Pain Service in Norwich offers highly specialised services such as Pain Management seminars and programs, spinal cord stimulation, ACT psychology groups, individual physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychology services as well as medical interventions and medication management. Our goal is to empower patients to develop robust self-management strategies whilst supporting them with a range of medical and multidisciplinary interventions as appropriate. Treatment is based on the latest guidelines from NICE and the BPS, along with other robust scientific evidence. Continuous Professional Development is actively supported through an established appraisal system, in-service training and post graduate library facilities. There will be peer review and support/training from all members of the team. Attendance at Pain conferences and other learning will be encouraged. To assess, prioritise and manage own caseload of outpatients, determine clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated, and maintain records as a legally autonomous practitioner. Patients may present with a range of complex/highly complex physical and/or psychological symptoms (see Appendix OT Band 6 PMS). To train, supervise and, with support, to performance manage students. To have an active role in the planning, development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy service provided to patients within and outreaching from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Pain Management Centre. Participation in the out-of-hours rotas for emergency on call, weekend and Bank Holiday working is not a requirement of the post. The post holder will be required to participate in the extended day/7-day rotas, in line with service needs.
