Job Description
We are looking for passionate, professional and ambitious Registered Mental Healthcare Nurses to join our expanding clinical team here at Team NNUH! Do you have previous experience working with patients with Eating Disorders, Alcohol and Substance Misuse or diagnosis such as Personality Disorder? An exciting opportunity has become available for a registered mental health nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team working primarily on Guist ward (with the potential for your skills to also be utilised elsewhere) at NNUH. Guist ward is part of our inpatient gastroenterology department and cares for patient who can present with a variety of physical and mental health needs. As an acute hospital, NNUH prides itself on caring for our patient's mental health needs alongside their physical health needs; this means that our staff are often required to support patients who present with complex health needs and risky behaviours. This specifically includes working with Eating Disorders, Alcohol and Substance Misuse and diagnosis such as Personality Disorder. We are looking for RMNs to join the ward team to take a lead in care planning and safety planning for these patients. The following skills and experience will be required and are essential for the successful candidates: * Providing specialist mental health advice which is highly complex and sensitive, to patients, carers and staff ensuring this is delivered in an understandable form. This may include giving unwelcome or difficult to accept information regarding patients, carers or staff. This includes dealing with complaints. * The post holder will be required to be skilled in communicating with people who may have some difficulty in understanding due to their mental health, emotional state, disability or cultural factors. * Have the ability to draw upon sound clinical experience, knowledge and skills to benefit and improve service user care. * Have knowledge of the clinical operational functions of local mental health services and support the clinical teams in accessing these services where necessary. * Have extensive knowledge of risk assessment and the use of least restrictive practice. The post holder will work as part of the ward clinical establishment however may also be required to support other clinical areas (as specifically identified) within the Medical Division of the hospital. The post holder will also receive support and supervision from the Mental Health Operational Manager and interface with teams including the Mental Capacity Matron, Substance Misuse Practitioners and Safeguarding Team to support NNUH culture of safety. The post holder should have at minimum a basic knowledge of the physical health skills required for the post but most importantly a keen interest to receive further training within physical health care required for the role.
