Job Description

The Acute Diabetes Specialist Service of Whittington Health is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Diabetes Operational Lead Nurse to join our busy and dynamic team. The Whittington Health is an innovative Integrated Care Organisation providing hospital and community services to 440,000 people living in Islington and Haringey. As the Diabetes Operational Lead you will be responsible for the management and delivery of the diabetes nursing services at the Whittington Health's Hospital/Secondary Care Site. This will include both in patient and out- patient services. You will be a highly specialist diabetes nurse and will autonomously assess, plan, prioritize and deliver evidence-based care, education and information to people with diabetes and their families, referred to the Acute Diabetes Service. You will prescribe or adjust antidiabetic medication and formulate management plans to optimise care for complex and acutely ill patients. You will be an expert resource who will provide advice, support and teaching in diabetes to health professionals and others, primarily at the Whittington Hospital but may also be required to support those in Primary Care. You will be leading the Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service at the Whittington Hospital. The service provides complex care to patients with diabetes within the acute setting including patients with insulin pumps. You will also be involved in delivering Type 1 Diabetes structured education.
