We are developing a world class product management organisation and have an exciting opportunity for an exceptional individual to join our product leadership team to drive digital product activities in the core Economist consumer publishing business. Organisation: + Reports to the Chief Product Officer (based in London) + Works with other product team members who look after the end-to-end customer journey + Close working with senior functional stakeholders across a matrix structure, especially editorial Accountabilities How you will contribute: + We are looking for a hands-on product leader with experience leading small teams of 4-8 product managers, a strong vision for managing a small portfolio of products and a track-record of building products customers love in the content or news/journalism space. In the US this would equate to either a Director or Senior Director of Product + You will work closely with our newly appointed Chief Product Officer to rapidly evolve our product management practice and look after our core product experiences of the website, mobile apps, audio, newsletters and Content Management System (CMS) + You will collaborate with another product group tasked with looking after the end-to-end customer journeys for our subscribers, trialists and free users + You will be based in London and some domestic travel with occasional international trips may be required. + Direct management responsibility for product managers on your team, including responsibility for team recruitment and development + Play as a key contributor to the practice of product management - ensuring that we are constantly focused on evolving and strengthening our methods, skills and capabilities. Experience, skills and professional attributes The ideal skills for this role include: + Experience of launching and evolving world-class products at high growth companies and leading high performing product managers in the consumer digital product space + Keen familiarity with content products, news products and a passion for the news consumption space + A good spotter of talent, with experience recruiting, motivating and retaining talented product managers + Highly experienced in doing customer and product discovery and teaching that to product managers + A manager who knows how to leverage product analytics and UX research to make decisions on how to evolve and improve existing products such as websites and apps + A great communicator who knows how to work with stakeholders, especially editorial and the newsroom + Solid experience of UX processes and benefits, user research and a strong understanding of mobile-first and responsive design Must have skills and traits: + Judgement: Data-driven and hypothesis-led balanced by creativity, a strong design sense and a product vision + Results oriented: You can cut to the core of a problem, identify what needs to be done and when, and work with the teams to get solutions shipped + Curiosity: Always looking to gain a deeper understanding of the user and the business to come up with the best solutions + Decision-making: Great at prioritising & making decisions - not afraid to say no + Managing and Leading: Ability to motivate and drive cross-functional teams without formal authority + Collaboration: Top notch collaboration and communication skills, both getting things started and when they run into difficulties + Passion for building the best experience for our users, and understand how to measure success + Communication: Skilled at communicating to stakeholders with varying levels of technical knowledge + Learning: A proven ability to climb steep learning curves, fast as well as an interest in helping others learn Job LocationsUnited Kingdom-London ID2020-6533 FunctionProduct Manager
