Surgical Quality Improvement Fellow (Core trainee level) Job Reference:185-A-20-86777 ROYAL DEVON AND EXETER NHS FOUNDATION TRUST Surgical Quality Improvement and Research Fellow (Core trainee level) Closing Date: Sunday 21st June 2020 This exciting, initially, yearlong post will allow a core trainee level surgical trainee to run quality improvement and research projects through the Health Surgical Researches Unit (HeSRU); the year can be extended. There will also be the opportunity to undertake a formal research degree with the University of Exeter: previous post holders have completed an MSc and are undertaking a two year MD. It is very likely that the post holder will be able to present and published on several occasions and there is financial support for attending training and conferences. From a clinical perspective the post holder would be part of the colo-rectal unit. There is an opportunity to evaluate the implementation of a new electronic patient record that is starting in Exeter in 2020. The post-holder will be mentored by a practicing consultant surgeon who has specific time allocated to this. The post will start from August 2020 for twelve months. The post holder will be fully on the on-call SHO rota; a 1:12 full shift pattern. The on-call team consists of a consultant, registrar, SHO and F1. In addition, one day a week will be service commitment but the rest of the time will be free for quality improvement and research. The Exeter Colorectal Unit provides a full range of colorectal services. The following subspecialties are therefore covered: * Core colorectal surgery and diagnostics * Laparoscopy colorectal surgery * Advanced Pelvic oncology * Functional bowel disease/Pelvic Floor Disease * Intestinal failure and complex inflammatory bowel disease including pouch surgery. * Problem stomas * Complex abdominal wall reconstruction surgery The Colorectal team as of August 2020 will consist of 10 consultant surgeons who form the integrated Emergency General Surgery rota in addition to 4 Upper GI surgeons.
