Department Overview The Technology division runs and supports all aspect of technology delivery across the Bank, from maintaining critical systems which underpin the UK economy, to providing data analytics, implementing comprehensive cyber security programmes, and introducing creative solutions in support of a digital workplace. Data Analytics & Modelling is the domain that develops supports and maintains the data services used across the organisation. Our core function is to analyse, design, develop and successfully deliver quality, robust business solutions. We are responsible for services that support the identification, extraction, analysis and presentation of business data to provide historical, current and predictive views of business operations. We work closely with the Chief Data Officer Division providing the IT capabilities to support the new divisions' objectives. Data Analytics and Modelling comprises of three sections; Delivery, Operations and Data Platform. This is a new role and will be in the Data Platform area of our domain. The operations part of the Data Platform team currently consists of 4 technical staff and will be expanding due to the planned implementation of a new on premise HDP Installation later in the year as an upgrade to a current installation. Job description The use of data within Central Banking is approaching a new phase in its evolution. The dual effect of increasingly granular data being collected through financial regulation and huge advances seen within the data technology space are presenting an exciting opportunity! Data Analytics and Modelling is an evolving Technology Domain right at the centre of this transformation. Through your daily work, you will use a range of industry leading data technologies and automation tools. The role will be as the lead engineer on a team with responsibility for designing, implementing, administrating and supporting Hadoop, Tableau and R Shiny / Server instances for the Bank's major data analytics environment. Alongside your colleagues, we have an enticing challenge to push the limits of continuous improvement, performance optimisation and capacity management! As the technical leader, you will be expected to lead the team in the design, implementation, administration and support of the solutions and services we deliver. You will have accountability for the resolution of the technical issues on the team, ensuring that specialist support is engaged where appropriate. Also you have control over the team's standards and procedures and will ensure that the team adhere to these. You should also form a good keen interest in the future of the technologies we are using, and advise on the onward development of the strategic roadmap. This is a people management and Technical leadership role, therefore you will be responsible for day to day management of the team. You will develop your team through sharing information effectively, coaching and communicating to ensure that your staff are productive, engaged and motivated to deliver the area's aims. This will include setting clear goals and smart stretching objectives that are aligned to those of the team, division and directorate. You will also be responsible for managing all staff-related matters that may arise including performance, absence and sickness.
