Simpson Millar is a leading Claimant law firm with offices throughout the country. Our Public Law department deals with a variety of areas, including Court of Protection, community care, claims against public authorities and education. It is ranked in Chambers and Legal 500, and has a leading reputation in all of these niche areas. We are seeking a specialist Court of Protection solicitor or Legal Executive to join our team of committed lawyers to conduct a caseload of Court of Protection cases. This role will be based in the north, feasibly Leeds, Manchester, or Lancaster (i.e. could be based in any location but not covering all of this geography however). Key Responsibilities: * To conduct a full caseload of matters on behalf of clients as directed and in accordance with the firm's file management and supervisory policy * To maintain a diary and bring up entries in accordance with the firm procedures * Effective use of case management system, databases and normal office IT systems * Identifies efficiencies that can be made across work area to improve ways of working * Detailed knowledge of legal aid field , its forms and procedures * Compliance within SRA and other regulatory frameworks including but not limited to Money Laundering Procedures and the Data Protection Act * Participation in the development, marketing and success of the Public Law Department * Maintains and develops communication between other fee earners, staff and representatives from own function/division and wider Simpson Millar group * Builds and grows links to external organisations * Case supervision of more junior staff though this is not line management responsibility Key KPI's * To achieve set targets within the role such as billing targets and time recording targets * Produce work which is consistently to an accurate and reliable standard * Develop good working relationship with the Public Law Team * Develop good working relationship with the other Solicitors/Fee Earners and Service teams within the organisation * Ability to prioritise workload * Ability to stick to deadlines Scope * Daily contact with the Head of Team * Daily contact with the Court of Protection team * Contact with external and internal stakeholders Experience /Knowledge /Qualifications * Detailed knowledge of health and welfare Court of Protection work essential * Experience of legal aid and CCMS essential * Links to referrers of Court of Protection work preferable but not essential * Experience of public law, community care work and education preferable but not essential * Good personal organisation and ability to adhere to strict time limits * Strong interpersonal skills * The ability to deal with individuals from all walks of life * The ability to prioritise work when necessary * The ability to provide the highest standards of client care * To maintain a diary and bring up entries in accordance with the firm procedures * A willingness to participate in the development, marketing and success of the Department and Firm Why work for us?
