Job Description
About Costain and your project. We are looking for a Project Manager based in Sizewell, Suffolk. Costain helps to improve people's lives by deploying technology-based engineering solutions to meet urgent national needs across the UK's energy, water and transportation infrastructures. Costain supports Energy Nuclear Generation to maximise the lifespan of its eight UK nuclear power stations. Costain's role is to provide project controls and commercial managed services to portfolios and programmes of work across all of EDF's eight UK nuclear power stations. As part of this work Costain will develop people capability in core project control skills and provide specialist support to EDFs Central Technical Organisation to improve project performance and deliver cost efficiencies. What will I be doing? As a Project Managers are accountable to the PPM for successful delivery of all aspects of their assigned projects. They also support the PPM by leading, coaching and mentoring Project Managers as required to improve team performance and competence. You will be responsible for: * Identifying, implementing and complying with applicable safety, environmental and quality standards, company procedures and policies and other relevant legislative and regulatory requirements * Managing the performance of other Project Managers and taking responsibility for the delivery of either a large complex project or a small portfolio of projects * Acting as coach and mentor to other Project Managers and helping them in developing their project management knowledge and experience * Applying the company project controls standards and developing, maintaining, reporting and trending an accurate project baseline * Maintaining a project team containing all the resources required to successfully deliver the project * Leading and coaching the project team members creating a positive team working environment * Identifying and assessing risks and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies * Managing assigned projects from concept (Gate A) to close out (Gate D) and maintaining effective integrated project execution strategies and plans * Implementing and maintaining effective communication to the project team and all stakeholders including Station interactions to ensure full understanding and commitment to the deliverables * Meeting the specified project functional criteria * Controlling scope and cost to the agreed project baseline. * Contract management responsibilities where delegated in the F3 Nomination of Contract Roles form * Maintain regular involvement of and communications with the Project Sponsor * Ensuring that any control arrangements identified, as part of the implementation of Licence Conditioons About you * Degree educated, ideally in engineering or related subject. Chartered engineer or equivalent professional qualification * APMP formal project management qualification or equivalent * The Project Manager must have a good, detailed understanding of a wide range of project management competencies and be able to evaluate and adopt them within a complex project environment. * Experience of coaching and mentoring other project managers in the understanding and applying project management competencies. * Experience of executed most of the project management competencies by managing a number of complex projects. These projects need to have involved a knowledge of engineering, design, procurement, safety case, construction and installation/commissioning management and commercial contracting * Significant brown-field project management experience * Must have excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks and be results-focussed tempered with a team-centred approach * Must have had experience of dealing with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders.
