CONSULTANT IN OLDER PERSON'S MEDICINE Joint Appointment Directorates of Older People's Medicine (RBH) and Medicine for the Elderly and Specialist Medicine (PGH) Job Description THE POST This post is for a substantive Consultant in Older Person's Medicine. This post will support the delivery of high quality care along the frailty pathway at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team. This will include managing patients in the Older Person's Assessment Unit and the short stay wards for older people as well as providing ambulatory and outpatient services at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals. We are working closely with our colleagues at Poole and will be working towards cross site working and shared governance as we plan for trust merger anticipated later in the year. We also work closely with the acute medical unit and increasingly with our partners in in the community liaising with Dorset Healthcare. A comprehensive clinical services review has determined that Royal Bournemouth hospital will become the main hospital for emergency care in East Dorset and planned care will be delivered from Poole hospital. We are building our service to deliver this with plans to establish a highly efficient Frailty Assessment Unit and to maximise the number of our patients being treated in an ambulatory setting. The post holder should be an enthusiastic, effective team player with a flexible approach who can embrace new ways of working and will be expected to take an active role in the running and development of our older people's services. The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals and Poole Hospital, are planned to merge in October 2020 with all acute services being based at the Royal Bournemouth site. This provides an exciting backdrop of change and the chance to help develop innovative services and new pathways.
