The Opportunity EDF Energy Nuclear New Build (NNB) is in the process of designing and constructing two new reactors at Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset. To support the licensing and operation of these reactors, a competent Design Authority is required supporting the HPC Project to understand the plant design and to develop robust nuclear safety cases. The purpose of this role is to ensure nuclear safety and maintain design integrity through enacting the role of intelligent customer within the Safety Case Branch. This Branch is responsible for the overall development of the HPC safety case. The Project Delivery Lead Safety Case Specialist role is: Based in Gloucester (Barnwood) with occasional working at other EDF locations in the UK and France; Part of a multi-disciplined Safety Case Branch of around 15 professional scientists and engineers providing support to the HPC project; Responsible for the overview of the project delivery including project processes, quality assurance, risk reporting and contact management (including the Responsible Designer) related to the HPC safety case within the HPC project; Responsible for establishing and maintaining links with the supply chain, other parts of the HPC project, other parts of EDF Energy and the regulators in all relevant matters. The Person What does being a great Safety Case Specialist - Project Delivery Lead at EDF Energy mean? The successful candidate will report to the Safety Case Delivery Group Lead. This post is required to have a broad understanding of the safety case especially those elements that span multiple disciplines. They will be required to provide advice to a range of stakeholders including operations, systems and civils groups across the HPC project regarding safety case compliance. To understand the safety case especially those elements that span multiple disciplines; Identify the requirements and lead/ support the development of multi-legged safety cases; Manage the production and development of the sections of the site specific safety case; Support the system groups in the Technical Directorate to develop changes to the safety case; Provide safety case input to non-conformances and design changes for specified systems; Work effectively and maintain a strong relationship with EDF Engineering and Regulatory bodies; Co-ordinate support from other external organisations; Interface with the regulator in the areas of safety case management and broad scope safety cases. The Skills Qualifications and Experience: Degree or equivalent in physical science, maths or engineering; Chartered scientist/engineer status would be desirable; Project management qualification, APM or equivalent would be desirable. Technical and Commercial Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrable evidence of complex safety case management/production within the nuclear industry; Identification and resolution of issues and development work within the life cycle of nuclear plant construction through to operational level; Experience in safety related, regulated environment e.g. nuclear or high hazards industry; Excellent organisational skills; Ability to operate autonomously or as part of a team; Understanding the needs of quality; Decision making capability for resolution of safety case issues; Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
