Job SummaryAvantor Services offers a wide range of laboratory support services designed to save our customers time and money. These services range from centralised glass washing to research technician activities. However, they all share a central theme in supporting our customers and allowing them to recover valuable research time to increase the productivity of their labs. Avantor Services has over 1000 employees globally and we currently have openings for a technician to join our service and provide facility support to one of AstraZeneca's Research Groups. This role is multi-disciplinary and underpins the animal bioscience facility. The facilities support technician role directly and indirectly supports scientists across R&D functions allowing scientists to concentrate on their core roll. This role is to be an animal bioscience related role focusing on the delivery of technical support to the laboratories In accordance with the UK Home office, Health and Safety and GLS requirements. This exciting opportunity would ideally suit an individual who seeks a lab support role with the opportunity for wider cross function working and potential career progression within science. You will be trained in the techniques specific to the department and be responsible for a range of general laboratory duties including management of consumables, waste management within the area and lab /cagewash housekeeping. Key Tasks The main purpose of this role is to support a specialist laboratory and animal bioscience facility maintaining and providing quality scientific and operational support services to the AstraZeneca client base. Responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of operational facility activities as directed by the AVANTOR Team Leader in line with contractual agreements and Service Level Agreements Supporting the Team Leader in the development and delivery of both AVANTOR and joint supplier Performance Measures (KPI's) Ensure that all environmental, secure facility and health and safety related activities (and required trainings) comply with both customer and AVANTOR expectations Ensuring compliance of operational activities within defined schedules and quality levels in specified operational areas Provision of necessary documentation in support of service delivery, compliance and training Working collaboratively with colleagues, other service providers, team leaders and managers to ensure best practice, compliance and delivery across the service supplier platform Ability to actively interact with customers and respond and resolve in a timely manner all customer requests and enquiries Conscientious and proactive approach towards service delivery and high level understanding of the facility assets and security requirements Skills, knowledge & competencies Experience of working within an animal cage wash facility and having responsibility for the operation and maintenance of additional husbandry equipment Able to partner and work collaboratively with other teams and suppliers to provide an outstanding combined level of service Support equipment (e.g. Cage Wash, Autoclave, Bedding hoist) in accordance with guidelines of the Animal Welfare Act and customer SOP's Ability to operate and troubleshoot a variety of robotic, cleaning, sterilising, filling and hoisting equipment that is facility / husbandry support specific Experience of provision of asset specific husbandry materials ensuring compliance with regulations and SOP's (diet, bedding, water bottles, cage rocks) Problem solving and bespoke equipment and facility troubleshooting capabilities Ability to coordinate and effectively communicate repair and general upkeep of physical environment and associated equipment and instrumentation in areas of responsibility Ability to perform manual handling tasks specific to the role and the facility Experience of waste streaming and handling including solvent and biohazardous waste Experience of receipt and delivery of facility specific and high priority assets e.g. dry ice, liquid Nitrogen, animal containers Technical experience to support current and future customer requirements Ability to ensure general consumable and husbandry related supplies are managed and readily available to the customer Good time management skills and operational flexibility, able to prioritise workload as an individual and to ensure team delivery Able to adapt emerging best practices, process changes and industry innovations Excellent communication skills and positive team working attitude Excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively Maintains required attendance level and adherence to work schedules to ensure assigned duties are completed in timeframes that support the asset functionality Offer This opportunity not only offers the chance to work in a dynamic growing R&D team but also in a company that is looking to expand in an exciting area of research.
