Job Description
Job Role & Responsibility We are seeking an experienced employment law attorney to join VMware's Legal Team and lead our group of legal professionals responsible for counseling on employment law issues across the EMEA region. The successful candidate will be part of the EMEA legal team, with solid line reporting in to the EMEA Regional Lead, and dotted line reporting in to the Global Senior Director of the Employment Law Group (ELG). You will join a fun and hard-working group of attorneys and other legal professionals and work closely with Human Resources, Employee Relations, and Global Ethics and Compliance to drive global consistency in VMware's relationship with its employees, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws. Nevertheless, you will be a key part of the EMEA legal leadership team and will interact closely with colleagues in our other legal groups, as well as Sales leaders and other business stakeholders throughout the region. This position will be based in Staines, United Kingdom. Your responsibilities include: * Serve as the lead employment lawyer for VMware's EMEA region (40+ countries). * Help keep the ELG Lead (as well as the EMEA Regional lead) updated & informed as to key employment risks; activities and priorities in the region. Be an active participant and contributor on both the EMEA legal leadership team as well as the ELG leadership team. * Lead and/or participate in special projects with cross-functional teams, including those focused on improving and enhancing employment-related policies, practices, and processes to execute priorities and ensure compliance. * Help provide practical and business-oriented legal advice to the global human resources team and the business regarding all aspects of the employer/employee relationship including, hiring, employment practices, works councils, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, compensation and benefits, terminations, contractor issues, privacy matters, and diversity and inclusion. * Provide support & guidance to non employment specialist VMware lawyers in region, who are serving as first line support on employment matters in EMEA, including delivering & supporting continued investment in learning & education as necessary. In addition, being pro-active and providing back-up support and strategic guidance to the VMware lawyers in the field, as necessary. * Provide employment law support in connection with mergers & acquisitions including due diligence and post-close integration. * Serve as people manager, where required, to a small group of employment lawyers in region. * Manage and partner with outside counsel in employment litigation matters; * Collaborate with the Human Resources Team to generate and implement trainings on HR and employment law topics. * Participate in global projects and initiatives.
