Substantive Consultant Ophthalmologist 10 PA Job Plan Applications are invited for a full time Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Glaucoma, who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care, to join our forward thinking organisation. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and forward thinking team comprising 14 consultants, specialty and trust grade doctors, specialty trainees, nurse practitioners, orthoptists, optometrists and a substantial team of ophthalmic Nurses, technicians and healthcare assistants. The department also benefits from an ECLO, three ophthalmology failsafe co-coordinators and a supportive senior management team within the Specialist Surgery, Specialist Outpatients & Cancer Services Cluster. The Royal Eye Unit is actively focused on continuous improvement and has well equipped clinics. A comprehensive eye casualty service is provided, and a wide range of ophthalmic surgery is carried out. The successful candidates will work with teams providing a full range of elective and emergency ophthalmology services. The department is currently undertaking a number of transformational projects working in partnership on a number of sub-specialty projects to standardise pathways of care and with local Optometrists and the CCG to deliver new and patient-centered community schemes to meet the demands of our local population. We are also moving to fully electronic patient records and embarking on an ambitious estates development plan to ensure we are able to meet predicted growth in acute hospital eye care services. The department also supports requests to undertake research studies and internal audit. The postholder will provide active leadership to support and develop eye care services in Kingston and the surrounding area, and will share clinical responsibilities with professional colleagues within the department. The postholder will be expected to work with clinical colleagues and local managers in providing a safe, efficient and effective service for Kingston Hospital. This will include the review of inpatients, provision of outpatient clinics, undertaking operating lists and active participation in the regional managed ophthalmic network. The appointee will be expected to support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. Research is encouraged and full facilities are available. The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid license to practice in line with the introduction of revalidation on 16 November 2009. You will also have completed Specialist Training and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date in Ophthalmology within six months of the date of interview.
