Staff Nurse - School Nursing
Overview
Job Description
A rare opportunity has arisen for a Staff Nurse in the small School Nursing Team within the breathtakingly beautiful and tranquil Orkney isles. The team requires a forward thinking, highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a strong public health focus who is fully committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our school aged population. The successful candidate will join us at an exciting time as we take forward our implementation of the National School Nursing Pathways. The candidate must have the ability and confidence to work autonomously as well as part of a skill mix team and work as a team member of the integrated children's service team alongside colleagues from Health and the Local Authority. We currently deliver an excellent public health model of care in this remote and rural setting which has a child centred approach, working with children aged 5-19 years of age, their parents/carers and all involved in the school community. Responsibilities will include management of a delegated caseload and using public health approaches to provide and maintain a high quality service that promotes the physical, mental health and well being of the school aged population in the 17 Primary schools, 2 Secondary schools and 3 Junior High Schools on the Orkney Mainland and 9 outer islands. The role will include delegated responsibility for health screening/surveillance, health promotion and a requirement to support the health needs of vulnerable children/young people within the caseload as well as participating in child protection. The natural and historical surroundings of Orkney are superb and the quality of life and heritage is unparalleled, with small class sizes in the schools, a low level of crime and a real sense of community steeped in tradition along with a cosmopolitan mix of population that contributes to a lively cultural scene.
