PURPOSE OF POSITION: ARK is looking to hire a Migration Researcher (part-time consultant) with experience of conducting research focused on Nigeria and West Africa. The position sits within ARKs Operations Department, which leads on the delivery of all our projects. You will work on a strategic communications project that addresses the challenges posed by irregular migration and human trafficking in Nigeria. You will be responsible for all research activities and outputs as well the capacity building of the projects beneficiary in the areas of research methods and applied research. You will report to the London-based Project Manager and the Head of Research and work closely with other members of the project team such as the Head of Communications and the local Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Contribute to the Organisational Capacity Assessment (OCA) of the beneficiary in the areas of research methods and applied research; * Collect, manage and analyse the data from the OCA in order to produce relevant insights that can inform the design of project activities such as training sessions and capacity building; * In coordination with the project team, design training sessions and materials and deliver or assist the delivery of training to the project beneficiaries staff in the area of strategic communications to address the challenges of human trafficking and irregular migration (ARK is fully cognisant of the risks and restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic and protecting the health and well-being of its staff is our utmost priority); * Keep abreast of relevant developments in the areas of migration and human trafficking in Nigeria and West Africa and more broadly of socio-political, economic and security dynamics in the region that have the potential to impact project activities; * Produce regular internal reporting and outputs to the projects donor about COVID-19 in Nigeria and West Africa in order to assist ARK in managing and mitigating risks associated with the pandemic to the project, the staff and ARKs local partners; * Provide ad-hoc editing, research, analysis and advice to support the development of project documents and outputs; * Conduct research and literature reviews of relevant specialist areas such as migration and strategic communications in order to capture valuable lessons from academics and practitioners which can be applied for the purposes of the project; * Assist in the preparation and conduct of data collection activities for Design, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning activities (DMEL) components of the project; * In conjunction with the Project Manager and the rest of the project team, attend regular
