Design at Mendeley You will be an integral part of the 11-person design team at Mendeley, which has gone through exponential growth in the past 3 years. We champion the best UCD and product development practices. This includes thorough research using a variety of methods including field observations, weekly usability testing sessions with users, and A/B testing experiments. We hope you can help us scale and improve our practices even further. What you'll be doing: We are creating a new generation of productivity tools for researchers. This is a top priority for our business and you will be a key member of the team doing the research and design work to help us achieve our ambitious goals. You will be the lead designer on a team working to build machine-learning based tools that will help scientists keep up-to-date with research by providing them with the latest papers in their own and adjacent fields. Your work will be a mix of forward-looking concept design, strategic research, and leading other designers on agile teams to deliver the best experience for our users. Your responsibilities will include: + Lead design work on one of the major products areas of Mendeley. Work with + stakeholders to drive product strategy and prioritise design work. + Manage a small team of designers on this project. Manage design resources + across products as well as the quality of all design outputs. + Create concept designs for new products, taking them from ideation to + implementation. + Work with product and technology stakeholders on strategy, carry out user research, validate concepts, and build buy-in within the company for your solutions. + Produce detailed design deliverables as needed to support project requirements including experience maps, scamps, wireframes, and prototypes. + Champion users throughout the design process. + Develop a deep understanding of the needs and workflows of science researchers through + interviews and other research methods. + Validate all design work through ongoing interviews and usability tests. + Build empathy for users across the organisation. + Build good working relationships with product and technology staff at all levels + to ensure strategic alignment and effective working processes + Have line management responsibilities for the designers on your team. + Provide coaching, mentoring and performance appraisals as needed, and support them in their career growth. + Collaborate with designers on the wider Mendeley design team to deliver consistent and connected experiences across all our products. + Proactively improve how the Mendeley design team works by exploring new tools and design processes. + Assist with the recruitment and on-boarding of new designers as needed. + Help transform Mendeley into a design-led organisation. What you should bring: + At least six-years design experience and a broad design skillset covering user + research, user experience, and interaction design. + A strong portfolio demonstrating experience of creating products and services + that meet user needs, product requirements, and business goals. + Hands-on experience in a wide range of research methods including interviews, workshops, and surveys. Experience of usability testing. + The ability to understand user needs, think strategically about business opportunities for Elsevier, and develop designs that successfully marry the two. + Experience working with on complex projects with a wide range of stakeholders. + The ability to rationalise your design solutions for product owners, developers, and other designers. + Experience working in an agile environment with product owners, business analysts and developers. + Good workin
