The primary purpose of this position is to to provide appropriate, specialized developmental care and instruction for children in the Child Development Centers. In addition, this position performs basic oversight and supervision for a designated classroom. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs ### Qualifications To qualify you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. EDUCATION: I have four years of education above high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university (must provide a copy of transcripts at the time of application). **OR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:**Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes implementing pre-planned child development activities; carrying out specific plans and activities for a designated classroom; providing classroom supervision and oversight ensuring activities are carried out according to established rules and procedures. **OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:** I have a combination of qualifying specialized experience and education that when combined total at least 100 percent (must provide transcripts at time of application). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation for working with young children. 2. Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices. 3. Ability to communicate orally using tact and courtesy when working with children, parents, and other caregivers. 4. Ability to deal with a range of problems common to a child development environment. 5. Skill in carrying out plans and activities to enhance the development of children. 6. Ability to lead others in work assignments and manage classroom of young children. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE : Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
