This role will help design and specify leading edge future communications solutions for utility scale Field Area Networks \(FAN\)\.It will include all aspects of network integration and automation design and deployment\. We are addressing projects across the energy spectrum, encompassing electricity and gas networks and supporting clients transition to smart networks encompassing requiring new communication systems\. This role will be a key part of our engineering team, bringing experience in developing communication solutions and smart system projects for TNO's, DNO's and private networks\.The key tasks and responsibilities are as follows: Technical responsibilities * Reporting to the Engineering Manager, completing your own projects and overseeing other engineers in larger packages of work\. * Design of Field Area Networks encompassing network integration and automation and future networks architecture and associated technologies\. * Design of Field Area Networks to relevant standards including: oidentifying applicable technologies and their strengths and disadvantages \(Licensed vs Unlicensed Spectrum, Radio Technologies: LTE, Spread spectrum, CDMA, etc, Radio Topologies: PTP, PTM, Mesh, Ring, Etc\) onetwork planning optimisation onetwork architecture diagrams ochannel plans oequipment migration plans * Identifying and troubleshooting network performance degradations * Preparation of technical specification documentation * CDM compliance and preparation of relevant documentation * Technical sign\-off of designs produced by less experienced engineers within the team\. Functional responsibilities * Lead your own technical projects and draw expertise from our US NIA centre of excellence in Kansas City, Missouri * Ability to understand client requirements to deliver technically proficient solutions and ability to present these to clients in writing and in person * Providing support to customers in field of expertise * Assist with bid stage technical solutions * Interact in a professional manner with clients and colleagues to achieve project objectives * Able to manage multiple projects and conflicting deadlines * Able to work autonomously and as part of a project team * Ongoing development of industry relationships to assist with future technical project delivery, development of future project opportunities, and Burns & McDonnell brand recognition\. * Personal professional development and partaking in professional bodies and industry groups * Technical mentoring of developing engineers within the team Qualifications Minimum Qualifications & Experience * Preference for degree qualification * Minimum of 5 years\-experience on field area network design and optimisation, ideally within the utility industry * Must have completed a field area network / distribution automation system strategy / design / deployment before * Relevant professional experience / qualifications in a telecommunications related field\. * IT literate, with good knowledge of using Microsoft Office applications\. * Experience of relevant industry software packages with preference to be AutoCAD literate * Membership of relevant industry body, e\.g\. The IET * IEng or CEng professional registration preferable\.
