Purpose The role is within the Engineering Services and reports directly to the Lead Civil Engineer. The main purpose is to provide technical support and specialist advice on civil engineering issues relating to the transmission and distribution networks. This will include providing effective engineering guidance and specialist advice on a wide range of engineering disciplines and providing policy guidance. Close engagement with SP Major Project Delivery team is a key aspect of the role. Responsibilities Tasks for this role will include the following: + Perform all duties with a strong emphasis on safety, quality and environmental excellence; + Develop and assess the feasibility of concept engineering solutions and prepare budget costings for complex projects; + Support and develop policies, strategies and specifications for civil engineering aspects, in accordance with best practice, ensuring legal & licence requirements and also ensuring effective utilisation of the asset base. + Review technical specifications prepared by SPT Projects to ensure technical and financial requirements are met; + Provide technical guidance on policy, design, construction and operation of transmission and distribution networks; + Be at the forefront of best industry practice, maintain a strong awareness of advances in technology and best practice and show a willing to assess and implement these into SPEN as 'business as usual'; + Take a supporting role in technical aspects of price reviews to ensure submissions are sufficiently robust; + Provide specialist technical knowledge to support Engineering Services, the Licenses and the Iberdrola Group as required. Skills and Requirements We are looking for a self-motivated individual with significant experience in most aspects of Civil Engineering, combined with the following: working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation; Proven commercial experience with a knowledge of various forms of contract; Sound understanding of the energy industry structure and legal/contractual framework; Working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices; Expert knowledge of network and business data and network management systems; Ability to develop outline designs into robust concept engineering solutions, considering quality, safety, inspection, maintenance and whole life cost. To be successful in this position you will need to bring with you: + Degree educational qualifications in a technical/numeric discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience. + Significant, hands on, experience of design and/or delivery of complex transmission and distribution projects. + Proven ability to communicate with other technical specialists and with senior management and strong interpersonal skills.
