The Role This position serves as the EMEA privacy legal lead addressing day to day privacy contractual and regulatory matters and data security incidents in EMEA. The role will also support Willis Towers Watson's (WTW) business and the work of the Data Privacy Office in establishing and maintaining compliance standards and WTW's global privacy program in EMEA. This critical role will: * Negotiate data protection terms for vendor, supplier, customer and employee agreements, as well as RFPs, bids, and strategic business partnerships and provide support and guidance regarding same for the business and other members of the Legal Department * Serve as the legal lead contact on data protection and privacy matters in EMEA * Advise the business and fellow legal department members on legal compliance requirements applicable to the privacy and management of the personal information of customers, employees and other individuals with whom the company interacts and related confidential personal information * Support the design, establishment and maintenance of WTW's EMEA data privacy program and compliance standards to comport with legal compliance requirements for EMEA, working in close collaboration with the Group Data Protection Officer, EMEA, and supporting local Data Protection Officers in EMEA where required * Assess the impact of new and existing regulations or laws on WTW's existing operations and offerings; providing advice to the relevant business teams to foster privacy by design and alignment with applicable legal requirements and corporate data protection policies and standards * Advise on the requirements and restrictions for international transfer of personal data by WTW and its contracting parties as well as advising on responses to data subjects and similar requests * Along with the Group Data Protection Officer, EMEA, provide training and education to legal staff, management and employees relating to data privacy in EMEA, including key legal issues, laws and regulations, corporate policies and other relevant matters. Support the development and delivery of relevant privacy awareness and training initiatives to build privacy awareness into WTW's corporate culture * Remain current on legal, regulatory developments affecting data protection and privacy in EMEA and monitor and communicate these developments to the relevant stakeholders * Manage the legal response for data security incidents in EMEA, including advising on notification and regulatory reporting requirements, as well as relevant communications, working in collaboration with other members of Legal, Corporate Affairs and relevant business teams. The Requirements This role requires an experienced lawyer with demonstrable presence and interpersonal skills sufficient to function successfully in a highly visible and challenging position. * Qualified practicing lawyer and preferably with a degree from an accredited international university * Ideally 6 - 8 years' post qualification experience as a practicing lawyer preferably with a corporation, in the insurance or consulting industries preferred or relevant post qualification experience in privacy * The preferred candidate holds a privacy certification (CIPP, CIPT or CIPM from the IAPP or similar) * Detailed knowledge of data protection/privacy requirements, laws and regulations in Europe, including the GDPR * The ability to work collaboratively and to engage and influence in a matrix organization * Strong interpersonal and influencing skills which can be applied to both internal and external relationships, with the ability to reconcile compliance requirements with business needs as far as is possible * Excellent written and oral communication skills. Adept at analyzing and interpreting laws and regulations. Attention to detail * Exemplary personal and professional integrity and business ethics. Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information * Ability to make autonomous decisions that are strategically of a high level of risk to the organization.
