Data science at Bloom & Wild The overall Bloom & Wild team is now over 100 people. Data Science sits within our tech and product organisation and collaborates closely with product managers, business intelligence analysts (separate team), back-end engineers and our CRM and operations teams. We are growing our existing team of 3 data scientists to a team of 5 or 6 over the coming months, with the Data Science Lead leading this teams work as a player-coach figure. We have a large and growing dataset to manage, with millions of customers and hundreds of thousands of monthly transactions The focus of the Data Science team is on * Building out our Bloom & Wild bespoke recommendation engine (we have to address particular complexities here, such as having a perishable product with a slower replenishment cycle than consumption cycle and having user preferences that are dynamic depending on the gift recipient and the purchase occasion - dimensions about which we have varying and imperfect information to drive decisions) * Driving our use of marketing and promotional strategies to balance out supply and demand at an aggregate and individual (user and item) level * Using AI tools to improve our end to end operational processes, from demand forecasting, to optimising operations in our recently launched fulfilment centre, to optimising delivery schedules in conjunction with carrier partners * Exploring opportunities to build out a recommendation-as-a-service API with a view to rolling this out across further categories as our business expands, and ultimately to commercialising this for 3rd parties The role and ways of working * Reporting to our VP, Product, Retention and Data, you will lead the delivery of team projects as both an individual contributor but also as a coach/mentor/manager to other data scientists * Youll take the lead on advising the business on which data to collect and how to store and manage it to provide the datasets for future data science projects. Were primarily working in Python with AWS databases (Postgres RDS, Redshift and DynamoDB) and weve recently implemented Snowflake. * Youll constantly look to automate the routine to spend your and your teams time on problems that add value to our business * This position requires a person who is highly numerate, finding great satisfaction in distilling vast amounts of data into insights and has strong commercial sense to heighten our understanding of the Bloom & Wild customer and make better decisions. * The role will suit someone who is looking for a career opportunity in a fast-paced, start-up environment and is looking to make an immediate impact. * We want someone who brings their previous experience to innovate in this role and challenge our current ways of doing things. * You will bring energy and positivity to the role, looking for every opportunity to learn and craft the role around our values; care, pride, customer first, innovation and delight. You * 5+ years of data science experience * Python/R including machine learning tools * SQL- Advanced level * Modelling in a digital business * Delivered successful and high-value data science initiatives * Data pipelining and automation * Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with non-technical people * Data visualisation tools such as Tableau, Looker or Periscope * Track record of creating actionable insights that drive business impact Nice to have * Experience working in e-commerce * Google Analytics/ web funnel tools * A/B testing We really care about creating a diverse team.
