Applications are invited to apply for a full time Consultant post in Acute Medicine as part of the Medicine Division here at Salisbury District Hospital. We are seeking highly motivated, inspirational future leaders to drive our Acute Medicine area forward. ABOUT THE TEAM The unit serves a population of 250,000. The Acute Medical Unit is a purpose built 19-bedded unit. We have an assessment area which has 10 trolley spaces and chairs for assessment of both expected patients and those patients on an ambulatory pathway, thus enabling us to deliver on Same Day Emergency Care pathways. The Department has a reputation for being forward thinking with an adept ability to be able to respond to the front door demands of the hospital. We are looking for a dynamic consultant to complement the current team of senior consultants. The Department would welcome applications from candidates who have sub specialty interests that they wish to pursue or lead. With the team ultimately expanding to 6 physicians, it will enable us Department to work towards better cover across the service over a seven day working week and will also support improved joint working with the Emergency Department (one of the best performing ED's in the country). There is a desire at Salisbury to improve pathways and process at the front door so as to be able to continue to deliver excellent patient care to our population. The clinical team is supported by junior medics, ANP's, prescribing pharmacists, ward based therapy and nursing support teams. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Work in close collaboration with the consultant team to improve the management of medical admissions, to support the achievement of the emergency access target and support development of ambulatory pathways. * Work within your own area of sub specialty interest to influence change and service improvement within this area of medicine. * Support the Trust in the delivery of an effective front door service to support with patient flow and length of stay. * To continue to support the AMU in the delivery of excellent length of stay for their short stay inpatients. * Mentor and support the junior medical staff on the AMU and as part of the general medicine oncall teams so as to create a culture of learning and development, promoting good team relationships. * Provide teaching to junior medical staff colleagues to support in their learning and development. * WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR The applicant must have CCT in General Medicine or be within 6 months of obtaining it, with a good experience in acute medicine. We offer an attractive package with a programmed activity session each week for professional development in your specialty interest. Your sessions will be fully supported by the Clinical Lead of your specialty. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate their competence to communicate in spoken and written English.
