Specific Responsibilities To act as an Independent Technical Assessor of the software of safety critical/related aircraft systems and provide advice on airworthiness issues related to those systems. This will involve the assessment of third party software and/or software documentation for adequate safety and conformance to standards. Knowledge, skills and Personal Qualities Required Software engineering experience Software assessment experience or a desire to learn Thorough knowledge of military and/or civil standards for software safety (including Def Stan 00-56, Def Stan 00-55, DO-178x) Working knowledge of Airworthiness Principles and Requirements (including Def Stan 00-970 and UK Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Publications) Experience of providing technical assurance in the software domain would be an advantage but is not essential Key Accountabilities Accuracy and Quality of Technical Advice Delivery of technical output to time, cost and quality Behavioural Requirements Sound communication skills, including the ability to construct and convey logical arguments effectively Analytical thinker and problem solver, able to apply analysis in a pragmatic and effective way Able to develop clear strategies for gathering, analysing, and evaluating software evidence Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work well within a team Able to deliver results against defined deadlines Pragmatic in the judgement of software integrity and the determination of an adequate level of evidence A professional and presentable demeanour appropriate for representing the client when interfacing with the customer or contractors, either as part of a team or individually Be able to exercise diplomacy in discussions and negotiations with the customers and contractors to maintain productive working relationships Prepared to go on detachments in the UK and overseas Essential Qualifications An Honours Degree in a Software or Safety Engineering discipline, or equivalent professional qualifications and experience Desirable Qualifications Postgraduate Qualification in Software or Safety Engineering discipline Membership of relevant professional body Position Requirements: This position would suit either an experienced software assurance provider or someone with suitable software knowledge to grow into the position. The position is within an existing team with a portfolio of work extending for many years and opportunity for promotion and growth exists for the person with the required behaviours and ambitions.
