Senior Lecturer in Sustainable Infrastructure Materials
Overview
Job Description
Infrastructure consumes enormous amounts of materials and has the highest embodied carbon among different industries. Reducing the environmental impact of infrastructure materials is vital to the UK's pledge to become carbon neutral by 2050. The need for sustainable infrastructure and environmentally sustainable materials, and to retain the value of infrastructure materials for longer, is now acute. Infrastructure materials are complex and diverse in nature and there are significant challenges of understanding and improving their performances under operational and service conditions that are often results of physio-chemical-thermal-mechanical actions. Tackling such complex challenges requires new thinking that can cut across disciplinary boundaries. To support our vision, we are seeking to appoint an innovative, curious and creative engineer who can help us to build new expertise in design, manufacture and characterisation of high performance construction materials, their smart and sustainable applications, durability and intervention methods and their reuse and recycling. We are looking for a leader who can develop new foci for research and teaching in the areas of sustainable infrastructure materials for construction. We welcome applications with proven expertise relating to one or more of: high performance construction material design and manufacturing, material characterisation, sustainability, and applications within the areas mentioned above. You will be hosted within the School of Engineering in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering. As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. As the School is committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark and Athena SWAN, we would particularly welcome applications from women and the black and minority ethnic (BME) community, who are both currently under-represented at this grade. All appointments will be made on merit. The School and University are committed to the well-being and work-life balance of all staff. In addition to our attractive rewards and benefits we have a suite of family-friendly policies covering flexible working, career breaks and entitlement to enhanced paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave which are applicable to all employees.
