Job Description
It's an exciting time at IDBS. We're breaking new frontiers and need Engineers that not only love coding but also thrive from mentoring their team to success and learning about the wider business. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will join a hardworking team of experienced developers in one of our agile teams, designing, building, deploying and maintaining our software solutions. You will gain exposure to a wide range of our software modules and the technologies backing these solutions, e.g. Kubernetes, AWS, Java EE, JavaScript Libraries/Frameworks (Web Components/React). Our Lead Engineers are at the heart of software delivery. As gate keepers of our high-quality software, they lead their team's technical strategy and coordinate efforts, enabling the engineering community to improve our products and velocity, giving us time back for innovation & creativity. Each Lead Engineer is gifted with their own unique style serving as a great source of motivation & inspiration to solve the most complex problems. We are always looking to improve our ways of working and encourage our teams to bring their experience and ideas to the table. Your role will be critical in building relationships across the organisation to align efforts, share best practice and bring out individuals' strengths, thereby growing our teams' capacity to take on bigger challenges. What we're looking for in you: + Passion for writing and maintaining high-quality software which is highly available and performs at scale. + An understanding of how to support large scale distributed systems and manage issues that arise. + Advanced coding skills in Java with experience in frameworks such as Akka, Spring, Lagom. + Experience with JavaScript Libraries/Frameworks (Web Components/React). + Experience in developing and integrating with server-side technologies for delivering content to Web Applications e.g. REST, Web Sockets. + Experience with DevOps and infrastructure as code. E.g., Terraform, CloudFormation. + Cloud experience (AWS preferred) - experience working on SaaS projects. + Experience with microservices, distributed systems and event driven architecture. + Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills + Able to deal positively with change, ambiguity and wide range of stakeholders + Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to thrive within a wide landscape of technologies as we transition our systems from a traditional 3-tier architecture to a cloud-based architecture within Kubernetes and AWS.
