The proximity to the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the area around Morecambe Bay offers the outdoors enthusiast a wide range of walking, fishing, sailing, climbing, caving and other outdoor pursuits all within easy reach. For those with a desire to get away occasionally the M6 motorway and the West Coast railway are both a short distance away for travel North or South while other routes make West Yorkshire and the North East easy to reach. The role includes: · Leading the delivery and production of up to 250 meals, producing a fresh breakfast, lunch and dinner offering as well as break and snack items to a high standard. · Managing and leading a team, including Chefs, Deputy Chefs, and Catering Assistants to achieve high standards of food and customer service · Identify and highlight training needs and take an active role in motivating and developing people. · Continual development of the school menu plan introducing innovative recipes and ensuring fresh and nutritional meals. · Provide for any special dietary requirements or allergies with tasty and creative alternatives meal that are also nutritious. · Monitoring of budget against expenditure and stocktakes. · Managing all aspects of Health & Safety and Food Hygiene · Day to day management and supervision of shift rostering, performance, maintenance of standards of dress, appearance and cleanliness. · Ensure that we deliver food and service that is of a high standard and meets School and pupil expectation in accordance with current independent schools’ guidelines · To attend meeting and training courses as required You should have: · Previous experience in a Head Chef role, or be able to demonstrate your potential to become a Head Chef and Catering Manager in time · An understanding of the challenges of manging a catering team in a busy environment. · A high level of culinary skill and fine dining experience · Excellent leadership managerial skills, ability to inspire others and experience in a large catering operation · Personal innovation and passion for quality food · Industry acumen and knowledge of external catering developments and innovations · Effective communication skills and ability to communicate at all levels · Good financial awareness · Ability to forward plan, set realistic objectives and anticipate where issues may arise · Sufficient IT skills to operate with MS office and catering industry software packages · Experience working in a standards/compliance environment Sedbergh School offers : • Generous Salary up o £26K depending & qualifications • Contributory Pension Scheme – to include life cover while remaining within the scheme. • Ride2Work. • Childcare vouchers. • Service awards. • Free car parking. • Opportunity to see School productions. • Staff events and family fun days • Sedbergh School staff can use the School’s vast facilities (outside the School timetabling) including the indoor swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and the incredible state of the art Hirst Sport Centre, which just opened in 2018 · Please contact Lizzie Harrison on 015396 20303 if you would like to know more about any of the positions that are available.
