Overview

Junior Controls/Automation Engineer Our client is a VC-backed, London start-up whose mission is 'to make packaging disappear'. It is leading the way in developing biodegradable packaging materials, made from seaweed and plants, to produce a range of home compostable products and reduce unnecessary plastic in the environment. The Company’s first product "Ooho" is a flexible packaging for liquids that biodegrades in 4-6 weeks, or can even be eaten, and has been used to distribute Lucozade at the London Marathon, to provide 'edible cocktails’ at festivals, and to replace ketchup sachets for Just Eat. The company is also developing other products which will soon be launched, including a greaseproof liner for paperboard products and a film to replace plastic wraps, all of which will also be home compostable and biodegradable in nature. If you are ready for an opportunity to jump in, tackle challenges head-on, contribute to a world changing solution and have a bit of fun along the way, then we would love you to apply The Role We are looking to recruit a well rounded engineer to support commissioning and testing of the Automation Control Systems of our Ooho manufacturing machine. Experience with Industrial PLC systems is a must. Our machine involves driving fluids control with peristaltic pumps, 2 axis motion control and a HMI screen so any past experience in similar systems is a plus. As part of a cross-functional project team, you will be working closely with mechanical engineers and the production team to make new machines operational, ensure their good working conditions as well as develop continuous improvements to the system. General Skills: Working collaboratively with mechanical engineers, designers, and other staff 2 years’ experience in relevant industry Education in a relevant engineering discipline Drive for solving our plastic pollution crisis Technical must have skills: Read and create electrical schematics. Wiring/Fault Finding: troubleshooting motors, sensors, power unit, HMI screen Experience with electrical racks (wiring and navigating) Tuning brushless motors PLC programming (Beckhoff / Twincat, Siemens S7, TIA) Supporting Design and development of electronic systems Understanding specifications of components Mechanical & safety systems understanding (motion control, I/O, HMI) Part sourcing Nice to have: Work with liquids/pumping fluids. IP rated environments New system development experience Developing internal systems for manufacturing (mini prototype systems) Document creation (build setup, manuals) Supporting Roll out team (potentially mechanical engineering) Comfortable with CAD for modifying parts, revision control, tolerancing control Support Maintenance of machines Process testing, fine tuning of machine parameters, data logging/analysis Prototyping experience with "DIY" electronics (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, NodeMCU…) Systems we use: Although we expect the applicant to be able to learn these systems, any prior experience with these is a plus: PLC: Beckhoff / Twincat, Siemens S7, TIA Experience with Eplan Motors: Maxon EPOS/ESCON Salary: £20,000.00 to £40,000.00 /year
