Daresbury Laboratory, Warrington £ 38,318 - £54,308, dependent on experience Full time About the Role The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) has a vision to maximise the impact of our knowledge, skills, and resources for the benefit of the UK and its people. Our Business Development team supports this vision by engaging with commercial organisations, enabling them to meet their research and development goals through access to STFC’s facilities and expertise. As Business Development Manager for STFC’s accelerator science and technology departments, you will be responsible for managing and developing the relationships with a number of key accounts, as well as identifying new commercial opportunities and developing those opportunities through to commercial contract. You will achieve this by understanding the department’s value proposition, creating a clear commercial business plan with the departmental management team, developing a strong network of internal and external contacts, and overseeing the commercial bid management process to manage risk effectively. Outward facing activities include: Managing and developing existing customer accounts Building new customer relationships Generating leads for potential sales opportunities Developing internal and external networks Fostering teaming arrangements for specific opportunities Follow-up sales activity for repeat business Presenting and hosting to support site visits and customer events Inward facing activities include: Understanding and developing the departments’ value proposition Developing the commercial business plan with department directors Overseeing the bid management process to ensure completion Activity reporting to senior management Feeding back customer requirements and intelligence gathered This role is being offered at either a salary band E or F dependent on experience. Criteria required for each pay band is detailed in the person specification. About You You will have a background in physical sciences or engineering and have experience of working in a commercial role in a technology or scientific organisation. You will be enthusiastic and interested in learning about the commercial applications of our accelerator science and technology capabilities. You will enjoy talking to people at all levels in commercial organisations about their product research and development challenges and be inspired to find practical solutions to address those challenges. You will be motivated to deliver new business and nurture new and existing customer relationships. You will take pride in delivering a great customer experience, and you will be responsive to customer requests. You will be confident, credible, and able to engage and influence both technical and business-led discussions and bring a commercial perspective to scientific projects.
