Overview
About the role Leading the shaping, development and implementation of the next phase of our Social Investment strategy, this is a key role for JRF and we are looking for a Head of Social Investment to take that forward for us. JRF has been making social investments since 2016 and, following the deployment of its first tranche of funds, undertook a piece of research in 2018 to evaluate the impact it was achieving and the opportunity that it has to expand the use social investments to contribute towards the organisation’s vision of a 'Prosperous UK without poverty’. The current portfolio includes a range of investments including debt, fund, and equity that balance financial returns with social impact. With the social investment building blocks in place, we are now looking for a Head of Social Investment to lead on creation and execution of the strategy for the next 3-5 years, including the origination and identification of social investment opportunities which meet JRF’s strategic priorities. The role involves overseeing the current portfolio of social investments, the analysis and recommendation of new social investments to the portfolio and managing our Investment Portfolio Manager. The role will report to the Director of Finance, work closely with JRF’s outcome teams and network with our external partners to identify and shape new opportunities to grow this portfolio. About you We are looking for someone with huge enthusiasm for what we do, who can engage in our mission and purpose. Our ideal candidate will not only have the technical knowledge to succeed in this role, with the experience and knowledge of identifying and making investments and the assessment of business plans, they will also have the interpersonal skills to build and maintain diverse relationships. Influence and credibility with a wide range of different people and organisations is key to the success of this role. Experience of identifying and managing risk are also essential. Good communication skills are key as you will need to be able to explain ideas in a way that other people understand, and your ability to prioritise workloads and work with competing demands and deadlines will be finely honed. Experience in or of the social investment sector is ideal but applicable wider experience is also welcomed.
