Overview The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) is the leading independent global body representing the Procurement and Supply profession with a global membership of over 70,000 in 150 countries. Procurement and Supply has a major impact on organisational profitability and efficiency, and CIPS offers a 'one stop shop’ for Procurement and Supply excellence in People, Processes and Performance. CIPS has local offices in the UK, Australia, Africa, the Middle East and the USA. The Government Commercial Function (GCF) expects all government CIPS Members to upgrade to Chartered Status. This GCF initiative is aimed at developing the commercial and procurement capability in order to drive forward best practice across government. CIPS have created a brand new 'Head of Public Sector Engagement’ post to lead the role that CIPS plays in driving the professionalisation agenda forwards. The postholder will lead the development and implementation of the CIPS strategy for UK public sector engagement and business development. The post can be either based out of CIPS’ offices in London (Southwark), or if you live outside of London the post can be home-based. In either case, you must be happy and willing to travel as necessary for meetings with stakeholders (most of these meetings will be in London), and also to CIPS HQ (PE9 3NZ). The role Managing the (GCF) CIPS Leadership Group in conjunction with the Cabinet Office to ensure maximum value is delivered for CIPS and the government attendees and all actions are completed. Encouraging full participation from all major UK Government departments. Becoming a Trusted Advisor to the UK Government, and the devolved governments on initiatives to develop procurement/commercial capability and capacity across all major departments. Maintain a comprehensive stakeholder map of all the key procurement and commercial contacts across UK Government, ensuing that CIPS owners are identified for each key relationship and that they are proactively building the relationships. Responsible for ensuring the agreed initiatives contained in the MOU between CIPS and the Cabinet Office are progressed and implemented. Manage and support the development of strategic Government engagement opportunities and be seen as the subject matter expert in structuring the CIPS approach to relationship and opportunity development. Work closely with the CIPS Business Development teams (UK and International) to ensure consistency of approach and avoid duplication of effort. Continuous research to identify and prioritise where strategic Government engagement opportunities exist globally and determining the optimal engagement strategy with Business Development, Education, and Membership & Knowledge teams. Capturing changing product and services needs from global public sector client engagements and feeding them in to relevant CIPS departments to support future product development. Develop best practice papers and case studies from and with the UK Government that can be shared globally with members and leadership teams of other government procurement organisations to demonstrate the value of good practice procurement and the role that CIPS plays in driving the professionalisation agenda forwards. Lead in building relationships with key senior public sector leaders to support and grow the education and standards agenda; develop practice and thought leadership; build CIPS voice/brand. Joint accountability with the Group Head of Membership for membership acquisition, retention and satisfaction in UK government. Candidate profile: High level of political awareness, and a good understanding of UK government Depth of relevant experience delivering to (or working within) the UK Public sector.
