Overview

My client is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join their private growing clinic. Responsibility of the Healthcare Assistant: To work flexibly under the direction of qualified or more senior members of nursing staff delivering high quality standard of care to attending patients. To actively contribute to and maintain health, safety and security of individuals and their environment. To actively contribute to the promotion of patients’ health and to ensure that patients’ individual rights and choices are actively promoted and supported and their beliefs and preferences appropriately acknowledged. This is a uniformed post and the post holder will be expected to wear uniform as provided and directed. Main duties and responsibilities of Healthcare Assistant: The nature of the work is to provide hands on care and support to patients attending the clinic ensuring timely management of their appointments, and to contribute to all areas of the service as delegated or requested; and to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the work area. Some reception cover and administrative tasks may also be required. Expected to carry out tasks as planned within the needs of the clinic to prepare for work expected within a given week. The successful candidate will need to be able to identify and carry out planning for the area which they are assigned to. The post holder will be expected to carry out duties which support the management of hygiene and infection control to maintain the required standards. To be aware of the responsibilities of all employees to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff attending the clinic. Undertake clinical tasks to support senior staff/consultants/specialist nurses/ technicians as required. This may include venepuncture, acting as a runner in theatre, dressings, blood pressures, measuring height and weight and other observations and urine testing. This list is not exhaustive and post holder is expected to undertake development to meet the needs of the service. Assist in preparing patients for clinical activities such as minor surgery. Record any communication or intervention with patients in the appropriate section in the patient’s record in line with local policies. Communication: Important relationships the successful candidate must maintain include those with visiting consultants and specialist staff, external and internal visitors at point of contact. Post holder will communicate information of a simple nature to patients and carers regarding care and procedures of a non complex nature or that which is within their scope of competence to undertake. Ensure effective communication between professionals and patients is maintained. Maintain effective communication with patients overcoming any barriers to understanding, providing necessary time to allow patients to communicate effectively. Communicate patients’ needs with tact and empathy, verbally and in writing, as necessary. Where possible resolve conflict and verbal complaints at point of contact and record. Direct patients/ carers/relatives to correct processes for formal issues. Act as patients’ advocate when required. Communicate effectively with all members of the Skin 55 team to deliver the service. Budgetary responsibility Assist in monitoring and maintaining stocks of materials and equipment Assist in maintaining instruments and/or equipment in accordance with guidelines Assist in the transfer of materials and equipment Assist in the economical use of resources; maintain stock rotation and identifying wastage of resources. Assist in the ordering of equipment/materials Clinical and practice governance: Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to confidentiality policy. The post holder must adhere to risk assessment and risk management processes. The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures. Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required. The post holder will participate in clinical and other audits as required. Participate in 1:1 meetings with line manager and team meetings as required. The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team. You will have the opportunity to work towards a vocationally related qualification.
