The Coal Authority has an exciting opportunity for a Planning & Development Manager to join the team based in Mansfield on a full time, 3 year fixed term contract in return for a competitive salary of £31,044 - £43,220 per annum . The Planning & Development Manager role: The Planning team currently has a fast-paced workload of over 9,000 consultation requests per year, and deals with 181 local planning authorities. High standards of performance and effective team-working are essential. Working with line managers, the post holder will contribute to performance monitoring, continuous improvement and the delivery of efficient, high quality services within this busy team. This important role involves the preparation of bespoke responses to ensure that new developments within coalfield areas are safe and stable, in relation to the Coal Authority’s duties as a Statutory Consultee in England, Scotland and Wales. Responsibilities of our Planning & Development Manager: - Prepare and dispatch responses to statutory consultations and chargeable advice work, including liaison with other parties as necessary, in accordance with corporate policies and procedural requirements - Defend consultation responses, when subject to queries, Planning Appeals and other forms of challenge as may be required. - Prepare fee proposals for chargeable advice work. - Assist the Team Leader and Principal Manager in the monitoring of performance and the development and improvement of processes and related policy and procedural documents. - Be responsible for the day-to-day management of one of the team’s main work areas as agreed with the Team Leader and Principal Manager. - Contribute to the promotion of the team’s functions within the Coal Authority and externally as agreed with line managers, including attendance at and contributions to stakeholder liaison, training and knowledge transfer events. - Advise line managers of any technical or other problems that become apparent in response processes and contribute as appropriate to their resolution. - Undertake such additional duties, including contributions to departmental and inter-departmental projects, as the Authority may reasonably require from time to time. What we’re looking for in our Planning & Development Manager: - A Masters degree or postgraduate diploma in town planning (or other equivalent combination of planning qualifications - Full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute. - A minimum of 3 years competent post-qualification experience in an LPA Development Management role, including managing a case load of major applications. - Significant knowledge of the town and country planning system together with an understanding of the interactions between the different Development Plan making processes and the Development Management process. - Detailed knowledge and understanding of the policy, legislation and the principles of the overall planning system including the variations between England, Scotland and Wales. - Detailed knowledge of the role and responsibilities of a statutory consultee. - Direct experience of the preparation and presentation of evidence to public examinations and appeals. - Appreciation of land instability and subsidence issues in order to influence the planning process. - Working knowledge of the political processes and priorities in Local Government. - Other professional skills to be expected include: organisational risk management; presentation skills; negotiation; report writing; data analysis; computer literacy If you believe you are the right candidate for the role as our Planning & Development Manager then please click ‘apply’ now We’d love to hear from you
