Overview
We're all here to make a positive difference to people with learning disabilities and/or autism in Somerset. Here at Discovery we are looking for dedicated individuals to join our Support Worker team at Newholme in Ruishton, Taunton . Discovery exists to help each person we support to live a fulfilling life, to be equal in society and to be active in his or her local community. That's a big deal. It means being able to have choice and control in life. It means choosing to go out or to stay in, making friends and having relationships, finding and developing skills and interests. It also means managing a home, voting, staying healthy and being able to pursue employment or volunteering opportunities. If you think you can help the people we support get more from life, we want to hear from you. About the role: Newholme is a residential service that is currently supporting a diverse group of 8 people, with a range of learning and physical disabilities. We are at the beginning of an exciting transformation into a new way of supporting the people who live here and so we are looking for people to join our team of Support Workers who share our values and want to enable the people we support to have a great life. Newholme is set in a quiet neighbourhood, with a large outdoor area with space for seating, activities and some gardening. Inside the building, each person we support has their own room which has been decorated with their input. As a Support Worker in our team you will be working with the people we support to go about their daily lives. You'll help those we support get washed and dressed, eat and drink anything else that they may need your support with. You'll also help the people we support keep in touch with family and friends, pursue their hobbies and go out for fun days out, such as to the beach. We are very supportive at Newholme not just of the people who live here, but also of the team who work here. When you start you will have regular one to ones with your manager to make sure you are settling in well, and this will continue to make sure that you are happy with what you are learning about the role. Benefits and rewards: £9.00 per hour, £9.90 for waking nights, £30.50 per sleep in. Full time, part time, and relief work available. 30 days' annual leave entitlement (including bank holidays) Supported ‘Learn to Drive' scheme (up to 10 driving lessons paid for by us) Pension scheme, Long Service Awards and Life Assurance Great Induction and training opportunities including the Care Certificate, and Diploma in Health & Social Care. Apply now: Discovery is such a special family to be a part of and enables our ambitious staff to make a difference and inspire each day. So if you would like to be a part of our team and feel your values match ours, please apply by clicking the button below and upload your CV, or you can contact Sean Grange on 0300 303 9202 for more information and an informal chat.
