Do you want to work on some of the world's most exciting and complex engineering and technology programmes? Our FTSE 100 defence and engineering client seeks to recruit a number of solicitors to work as In-house Legal Counsel at its offices near Preston, Lancashire. Applications are actively encouraged from solicitors with commercial, corporate, commercial litigation, construction, projects and similar commercial legal experience. Company: Our client is a FTSE 100 global engineering business and one of the world's leading defence companies. It has operations across the UK and internationally, and in the North West of England it is a major employer in the Preston, Lancashire area. Role - In-house Legal Counsel: There are several opportunities for commercially trained solicitors to join our clients' long-established in-house legal department as in-house Legal Counsel. These positions are broadly commercial in focus however, due to the complex nature of the industry sector and products, our client is willing to consider applications from solicitors experienced in a range commercial legal disciplines. This includes commercial, corporate, commercial litigation, construction, projects etc. If you are interested in making the move in-house, and/or would like to work for one of the UK's leading engineering companies, these roles deserves serious consideration. Main duties and responsibilities: Embedded within the businesses you support, as In-house Legal Counsel you will contribute towards the company's overall objectives, which include growing and supporting a sustainable international business, developing the next generation of aircraft capabilities, delivering support and training solutions for our customers', continuing the evolution and support of existing products, maximising technological capabilities and cultivating a highly skilled and diverse workforce. This will include: Providing proactive, high quality, business-focused legal advice and solutions in a timely manner and as a business partner, across multiple jurisdictions; Supporting export contracts and ensuring governance in establishing international partnerships; Understanding the commercial, political and economic issues affecting the business; Drafting, negotiating, agreeing, completing and supporting contractual arrangements with customers and partners which contribute to the development of the business; Ensuring that the company is compliant with all applicable legal requirements including health and safety, procurement law, product safety, compliance, export control and ethical business conduct; Participating from an early stage in disputes to assist in developing appropriate strategies for their effective resolution; Contributing to the wider global legal function, as and when required; Keeping abreast of legal and business developments relevant to the business, and providing training where necessary. About you: UK qualified solicitor or barrister with appropriate leading law firm and/or in-house experience; Experience of operating within a commercial environment. This includes: commercial, corporate, commercial litigation, construction, projects etc.; Sound knowledge of, and experience of dealing with, relevant areas of the law; Ability to establish trusted relationships, exert influence and communicate clearly and effectively; An element of short term and longer term mobility, nationally or internationally is preferred.
