Overview

Investigative Assistants are being recruited for a period of up to 6 months to work on the Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPT), supporting officers working on the response teams. Working practices Investigative Assistants will be based at one of the borough police bases, and will be tasked with work by the Neighbourhood Policing teams which work a full 24/7 shift pattern. Investigative Assistants will work alternate weeks of early and late shifts, with an early shift covering from 0800-1600 hours (including an unpaid meal break) and late shifts covering from 1400-2200 (including an unpaid meal break) Monday to Friday. There is no expectation that Investigative Assistants will work weekends. Work will be assigned to Investigative Assistants by NPT sergeants using the Niche computer tasking system. Key skills sought • Competence in conducting suspect interviews • Dealing with a wide range of investigative enquiries • Working knowledge of Niche Investigative Assistants will be allocated specific task, as opposed to ‘owning’ a workload, and these tasks will include: • Taking witness/ victim statements (subject to risk assessment by the allocating sergeant) • General crime enquiries such as house to house enquiries and CCTV collection and evidential reviewing • Prisoner interviews (depending on experience and risk assessment) • Any other crime enquiries the Duty Officer sees fit within their investigative capability and powers. • Assistance with Urgent CPS requests/responses in OIC’s absence. • Missing person enquiries as tasked by Duty Officer. Locations Guildford, Reigate, Godalming, Addlestone, Esher Working hours Standard arrangement is for each Investigative Assistant to work 37 hours per week. This will translate to 7.4 hours per day. They will be rostered for an 8 hour shift which will include 0.6 hours (36 minutes) unpaid mealbreak. Additional hours beyond the 8 will attract overtime payment, to be signed for by the line manager. Training Prior experience of using the Niche computer system will be an advantage. For successful applicants who do not have this experience, an introductory session will be offered sufficient to allow Investigative Assistants to research, update and manage a task workload on Niche. £140 per day.
