Overview

Job Purpose The Tax Assistant will not have a specific allocation of clients, but will pick up tax return jobs as and when information is received. They will liaise with the Client Relationship Manager for the particular client. They will complete the work so that it is ready to be reviewed by a Manager/Partner and get this to a point where it can be finalised and ready for it to be sent to the client for signature. The Assistant will ensure the return is prepared within the time guidelines set within the compliance team. Clients The Tax Assistant will not have a specific allocation of clients. They will pick up jobs in the order in which tax return information is received, so potentially can deal with any personal tax client of the firm. Job Role -Ensure all information necessary to complete Tax Return has been uploaded onto IRIS and saved in relevant client folder. -Obtain further information, where necessary, from client relationship manager or client. -Ensure time taken on those Tax Returns does not exceed limit set by Hub Centre Manager and report back in advance where there will be a problem so that this can be discussed with the client -Prepare draft letter for client for those Returns -Assist the manager/Partners with issues/problems they have identified. -Answer ad-hoc questions from clients re coding notices etc. -Be able to effectively communicate with HMRC regarding various tax issues -Prepare questions/review points for Managers/Partners -Spot BD opportunities for advisors. -Raise fee notes for assurance work. Measures of success -QCR/client relationship manager feedback on any errors (technical excellence). -Use of technical skills to support team. (technical excellence) -% recovery on work, lockup kept below 30% and personal utilisation/chargeability (managing for results). Person Specification A number of years of experience in dealing with personal tax compliance, and experience in dealing with colleagues and clients. Having a good knowledge of all aspects of personal tax and being able to identify opportunities.
