Overview

This role is for a fixed term period of 18 – 24 months and will support the Financial Control and Operations team within the central finance department during the implementation of a new ERP system. As part of the central finance team the post holder reports directly to the Deputy Director of Finance (Financial Control and Operations). The role involves the provision of all necessary support to facilitate the effective operation of the team and to ensure it meets the needs of the University in relation to the provision of central finance services. By necessity, the role requires flexibility as the responsibilities and obligations placed on the central finance team will change over time, reflecting the changing environment within which the University operates. Financial Accountants within the Central Finance team will be allocated core tasks/responsibilities that will be built into their objectives. The ability to initiate and complete tasks to the highest standard is essential. Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills are also vital to this role, as are strong IT skills (Microsoft Office and Oracle or similar finance systems). Applicants should also have experience of working in a customer-oriented role and it will suit a self-motivated individual who is able to work flexibly as one of a team within a challenging and dynamic business environment. Activities may be subject to amendment over time as the role develops and/or priorities and requirements evolve. The key elements of this Financial Accountant role are as follows: Statutory Reporting and Accounting Support the preparation of the University’s consolidated annual report and accounts Support internal and external auditors in their work and deal with queries and questions as required Balance Sheet Management · Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations, investigate and highlight issues, and make recommendations for clearing erroneous balances · Preparation and Maintenance of Financial Regulations/ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Evaluation of Technical Issues/ Support · Investigate options and draft technical papers for presentation to Senior Managers Management of Fixed Assets Reconciliation of Fixed Asset module with general ledger Additions and disposals Corporation Tax and VAT Calculation of corporation tax Calculation of VAT returns, including PESM and RCV Continuous Improvement · Actively participate in continuous improvement activities, involving process and/or system enhancements Other Duties Assist as required with internal and external audits Perform other ad hoc financial accounting duties as required Essential requirements Education and Qualifications Candidates must be professionally qualified (e.g. ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA or CIPFA) Experience · Statutory Accounts preparation · Balance sheet management including reconciliations · ERP Finance Systems (e.g. Oracle) Desirable requirements Experience · Operational experience in a matrix organisation with overseas operations · Experience of drafting Financial Accounting opinion papers under latest UK GAAP Applications can be submitted up to midnight (UK time) on 31st March 2020.
