Overview
This role is for a fixed term period of 18 – 24 months and will support the Financial Control and Operations team within the central finance department during the implementation of a new ERP system. Reporting to the Finance Operations Manager (‘FOM’), the incoming Finance Manager – Financial Control and Operations will support the FOM with managing the day-to-day activities of the Financial Control and Operations team. The role will support the FOM in key finance activities such as Treasury, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. Assist the FOM in leading multiple finance teams to a high standard. There will be a level of senior internal and external interaction in the role and therefore excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills are also required. This role is specifically to support the FOM while she and others will be working on the ERP project. The Finance Manager will assist with managing and co-ordinating the activities of the team so that business as usual is maintained with no detriment to users of central finance services. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to utilise their experience and skills in a complex and interesting environ. Key Duties : Provide support to the FOM in leading and managing the team while the she and other members are assisting with the ERP project. Work with colleagues across the University as necessary to ensure processes are as efficient and effective as possible. Provide support with the identification, management and mitigation of significant risks in the day-to-day activities of the Treasury, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions. Financial Transactions Processing and Reconciliations Provide support to the FOM in overseeing effective delivery and financial control in 3 key operational areas –accounts payable, accounts receivable and treasury. Provide support to the FOM in the implementation and maintenance of effective balance sheet reconciliation. Please note that these duties and responsibilities are not exhaustive. The role holder may be required to undertake other relevant duties commensurate with the grading of the post. Essential Requirements Education/ qualifications Candidates must either hold a relevant accountancy qualification (e.g. ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA or equivalent) or be able to exhibit adequate experience (5 years) demonstrated through professional development and significant involvement in finance team responsibilities. Professional and other relevant experience Experience of leadership and management of a finance team in a complex organisation. Experience in the exercise of key financial controls in order to safeguard funds and other assets of the group; to prevent and detect fraud. Operational experience in running accounts payable, accounts receivable, and treasury operations. Experience in developing and sustaining customer service relationships. Other essential skills/ competencies Good people skills with an ability to develop effective relationships and to foster effective individual and team performance. Proficient in the use of finance systems and common computer applications. Good communication and interpersonal skills. A well organised and efficient planner, able to demonstrate good team management skills. Desirable Requirements Relevant experience in a busy and complex finance environment. Operation of foreign currency ledgers Skills/ competencies Identification of risk and implementation of relevant controls. Knowledge of current sectoral best practice in finance Applications can be submitted up to midnight (UK time) on 31st March 2020. This is a fixed term 18 - 24 month post. This role does not meet the minimum requirements set by UKVI to enable sponsorship of migrant workers.
