Engineering Apprentice - Rail Vehicle Maintenance Arriva TrainCare provides Light and Heavy Train Maintenance services to the railway industry, operating from 6 depot locations in the UK. What will the role of Engineering Apprentice entail? As an Engineering Apprentice you will undertake training on the heavy maintenance overhaul of rolling stock as well as the electrical and mechanical light maintenance activities of rolling stock, under the supervision of experienced Engineers until full competency is achieved. You’ll be working towards a time-served apprentice qualification over a 4-year period, where you’ll develop your skills and knowledge by assisting the engineering team with day to day work on a wide range of locomotives, carrying out Light and Heavy Maintenance activities. You will also gain an insight and overview on how other departments operate and link in to Engineering to meet customer needs. In order to achieve your NVQ Level 3 Rail Engineering Technician qualification, you will be required to attend block release at Reaseheath College, near Nantwich, Cheshire. What will I receive in return? As an Engineering Apprentice, you’ll receive a starting salary of £13,344, which will rise to £16,680 in year 2, £25,021 in year 3 and £32,548 in year 4. What will I need to be considered for this Engineering Apprentice role? A minimum of 4 GCSE’s, grade A to C in Maths, English and Science Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written Superb organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines and manage time effectively Experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel A flexible, professional and proactive attitude to work Although not essential, engineering experience would be advantageous, along with an understanding of mechanical principles and of the rail industry.
