About Smoothstone Care and Education Smoothstone Care and Education comprises of an Independent Special School and 2 Care Homes, which cater for Young People aged 11 to 18 with a range of complex speech, language and communication difficulties including autism. The Young People may also have additional learning difficulties and display associated challenging behaviours. Young People placed with us all have Education, Health and Care Plans (statement of special educational needs) that specify their specific needs and the strategies that should be employed in order for their needs to be met. Our approach is firmly based on a therapeutic model, supporting staff to help the young people make sense of the world in which they live. Our first home and school occupy the same site with a further home situated just 4 miles away. All our care and education staff work closely together to achieve outstanding outcomes. Requirements of the job We are looking to recruit competent, experienced and passionate support workers. Candidates will have at least six months experience within a similar setting, a working knowledge of autism and will already hold a Level 3 Diploma in residential childcare or equivalent. Any experience of supporting learning in a classroom setting would also be an advantage but not essential. Benefits / Salary Experienced candidates with an understanding of autism, experience of shift leading, medication handling and hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare are eligible for a starting salary of up to £21,000. Benefits will include planned career development, ongoing comprehensive training package, free meals, pension, annual loyalty bonus and 20 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays entitlement (pro rata). There is also a sleep in allowance in addition to the yearly salary. Positions We have Support Worker and Waking Night Positions currently available. Support Workers - Full time positions are available working a combination of early shifts, late shifts and full days with occasional sleep in duties. (OR Waking Night Shifts). Both positions will include some weekends and bank holidays. All successful candidates will be expected to display a commitment to promoting the safeguarding and well being of our Young People and to participate in all activities with the students including in the classroom setting.
