Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Microbial Natural Product Chemistry Full-time: 35 hours per week, Fixed term for 18 months, starting June 2020 The UWS Natural Product Group is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support in the project entitled “Exploring the Egyptian natural resources for conventional and unconventional antimicrobial agents using in-silico, chemical and biological screening” funded by the British Council - Newton Fund Institutional Links in collaboration between School of Computing, Engineering & Physical Sciences, University of the West of Scotland, Paisley and Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, Egypt. The post is available from the 1st June 2020 for 18 months. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to experiments within this research theme. The post holder, although based at the UWS Paisley Campus, will be expected to travel to overseas to conduct few experiments and givesome microbial natural product training, where necessary. The post holder will also be ableto contr ibute to other programmes of research in the UWS group. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and well-motivated experimental scientist,with a PhD in microbial natural product chemistry, and with a strong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with experience. The role will involve the microbial isolation, molecular identification, large-scale fermentation, chromatographic isolation and using different advanced spectroscopic approaches for the structure elucidation, preparation of pure compound library for antimicrobial screening. As such, the successful candidate will have good experience of setting-up microbial fermentation experiments, have a good understanding of high-resolution mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance. Experience to conduct some preliminary biological testing and nanoparticles formulations will also be an advantage. Willingness to travel to overseas is essential.
