Here’s how this role will help: We are seeking a talented, insightful and ambitious device design engineer to join the growing team. The successful candidate will provide a significant contribution to leading the design of new medical devices with a focus on respiratory and injectable drug delivery, drawing on their insight into mass-produced mechanisms, their design skills, creativity, initiative and drive. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of highly talented individuals to develop novel solutions to difficult technical problems. You will: Technically lead design teams to realize your solutions for complex mechanical or electro-mechanical drug delivery systems. Apply your knowledge of the regulatory landscape to ensure standards-compliant design. Use your commercial experience and awareness with regard to technical issues. Use your knowledge of materials, high-volume component manufacturing processes and complex assembly processes to develop cost-effective and robust components and assemblies. Drive your design with solid engineering principles, calculations and tolerance analysis. Evaluate technical risks within a development and identify effective mitigations. Identify methods to test designs and analyses the results; present findings and make design recommendations based on these. Liaise with external partners/suppliers in the industrialization, scale-up and verification of device design. Interface with the GDD Project Team and partner groups to ensure an integrated approach to overall project delivery. Write technical reports and produce high quality design documentation within a regulatory controlled GMP environment. Here are the minimum qualifications and essential functions for this position: A 1st or Upper 2nd class degree from a respected university in mechanical engineering or a related discipline. Very strong mechanical creativity, insight and attention to detail applied to the creation of reliable mass-produced devices. This will be demonstrated by a track record of setting the direction and following through with high-quality design in advanced mechanical product development projects. You will have a creative and methodical approach to problem solving, whilst your work will display quality, honesty and integrity at all levels. Knowledge of manufacture and assembly processes from one off designs to high volume manufacture is required, with particular experience in plastic injection molding. Your skills and experience will help us to resolve the challenges faced during the development of complex devices; specific experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry is highly desirable, with respiratory and/or injectable drug delivery systems experience an advantage. Understanding of Design Control requirements and working within a GMP controlled regulatory environment. A working knowledge of ISO 13485 & FDA 21 CFR Part 820 Design Control requirements. Familiarity with 3D CAD; Creo (preferred) or Solid works. Highly driven and motivated person who has the ability to lead a flexible, dynamic team whilst taking responsibility for individual tasks. Good communication skills are essential as an important part of your role will be communicating your work to team members and colleagues. International travel will be required as part of this role.
