Overview

Location: In and around Barnet, office - Collingdale Working hours: 37.5 hours per week - Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm (some flexibility to work from home) Salary: £32-£34k Working within the Highways Asset Operations Team for Highways, this role provides a fast paced and challenging workload. This team delivers capital works to improve the condition of the Barnet highways infrastructure. The team are responsible for identifying, designing and implementing all planned capital improvements to the borough highway and transport assets. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the site management and implementation of capital improvement works is carried out in accordance with Council policy, with a focus on vehicle crossovers and developer schemes. Key responsibilities of the role are: To supervise projects and to assist in obtaining the necessary technical, administrative and financial approvals in the preparation, supervision and administration of the highways contracts. To prepare estimates and lead on the supervision and administration of contracts and to ensure compliance with contract specifications, financial regulations, standing orders and the relevant legislation. To ensure that the contractors are delivering quality services in compliance with specifications, through maintaining adequate site inspection records to address non-compliance issues and resulting remedial actions. To liaise with, where appropriate, customers and stakeholders, to ensure the site works are coordinated and projects are delivered to programme and budget. To assist with, or carry out technical investigations and site surveys as directed and to assist with the preparation of reports on findings. To liaise and deal courteously and in line with policy with all enquiries from elected Members, members of the public, and stakeholders, including the preparation of letters, technical reports and other documents as required. To maintain technical and resource records in accordance with Capita's procedures as outlined in the Business Management System. To be aware of the best value aspects of providing professional/technical service and to assist in the achievement of these. Attend internal and external meetings, and represent the service at public and other meetings as directed. To take ownership of personal training and development needs, and keep up to date with latest industry developments. Carry out duties with due regard to the Re's Customer Care, Equal Opportunities, Information Governance, Data Protection and Health and Safety policies and procedures. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the general level of responsibility of this post. Requirements (Essential) Must be able to demonstrate suitable relevant experience in highways contract supervision, including the preparation of contract bill of quantities, specifications and associated contract documents General knowledge of highways and transport policies and associated working knowledge of legislation ONC/HNC in Civil Engineering / Transportation or equivalent relevant experience Experience of working with consultants/contractors Good written and verbal communication skills Good IT skills Good budgetary management skills Ability to keep good work records Valid clean driving licence Own means of transport Occasional out of normal hours working
