Legal Counsel – Employment Law Crawley The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 4 year PQE employment lawyer to join the Employment Law team within the UK Legal function, as maternity cover for a fixed term of 12 months. The role is based in Crawley, with some flexibility. Reporting to Head of Employment Law (interim), the job-holder will work very closely with HR and the business and, depending on the candidate’s level of experience, may be required to provide support to a more junior employment lawyer within the team. This is an important role, supporting all Thales businesses in the UK, advising on a wide range of employment matters, both contentious and non-contentious. This is a perfect role for someone who is looking for a varied and interesting workload, and who is used to adopting a commercial and risk-based approach to employment law issues. Key Responsibilities and Tasks: Providing ad hoc advice to HR on a wide range of employment issues including complex grievances and disciplinary / performance processes, alleged discrimination, redundancies and senior exits Tribunal claims Running own cases Leading negotiation strategies for settlement Conducting preliminary hearings Restructuring, Commercial / Bid support and M&A - advising on the employment law aspects of: Restructuring projects TUPE advice on: Insourcing/outsourcing of services Commercial contracts M&A activity Change programmes Training - preparing and presenting training materials (presentations, case studies, workshops etc.) Industrial relations - advising on potential industrial relation disputes and trade union issues Immigration – supporting on immigration matters Skills and Behaviours: Thales is a growing company and we are looking for exceptional people with positive, can do attitudes. Here are some of the key skills, experience and attributes we are looking for in this role: Barrister or Solicitor Considerable employment law experience, ideally having trained and qualified with a reputable law firm. In-house experience is desirable Great team player Ability to work independently and as part of a small team Excellent organisation skills and ability to prioritise in a busy role Ability to advise the businesses from both a legal and commercial standpoint, and offer pragmatic solutions Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with and influence stakeholders at different levels of the organisation Supervisory experience is desirable Excellent presentation and communications skills In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years.
