Senior Structural Dynamicist
Overview
AWE is currently recruiting for a Senior Structural Dynamicist. In the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) era, AWE relies on cutting-edge science and computational methodologies to verify the safety and effectiveness of the warhead stockpile, without conducting live testing. Working within the Structural Dynamics Team at AWE Aldermaston within the Warhead Engineering community, you will be expected to become proficient at both dynamic testing and Finite Element analysis to solve real-world problems for internal and external customers. Candidates are expected to have: A degree qualification in engineering (or an HND in engineering supported by extensive practical experience) or technical (e.g. science) equivalent A good grasp of mathematical and engineering concepts, particularly in relation to dynamics An ability to generate designs to solve engineering problems Proficient in use of modern Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, (preferably Siemens NX) Experience of using modern Finite Element (FE) analysis software (preferably Ansys) Appreciation of dynamic testing, such as modal testing and environmental testing Willingness to work for infrequent short periods at locations around the UK or abroad An ability to work as part of a team and with multiple stakeholders Desirable knowledge and experience: Experience of advanced FE modelling, e.g. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or Thermal modelling Experience of FE model validation and updating Understanding of data acquisition and signal processing Experience of environmental testing, particularly random vibration control Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
