Company Secretary / Junior Consultant / Assistant Board Advisor Location : Cardiff Hours of work: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between hours of 09:00 - 18:00 Salary : £23,500 to £34,500 /year depending on qualifications and experience plus participation in a bonus scheme that is the most attractive in the industry. An indication of the notice period you are required to work out (if relevant) and your earliest possible start date should be identified in your application letter About the company: We are an independent consultancy specialised providing evidence-based board evaluations and board development programmes. Our key contacts in organisations are Chairmen/women, Directors, Non-Executive Directors, and Company Secretaries. Our business is a thought leader in its space and is receiving seed funding from the Development Bank of Wales and some fantastic Angels. Job description: The role is suitable role for candidates with 2-4 years’ full-time relevant experience gained in a large organisation (preferably a Company Secretariat), a Professional Service Firm (Law firm or Management Consultancy) or a successful start-up. Candidates would, preferably, have some experience and/or a clear interest in governance and board effectiveness. Successful applicants receive mentoring from the founder. The focus will, however, be on supporting board evaluation and board development assignments, with significant amount of time being spent delivering outputs to be used in projects for clients. As in any start-up environment much of the learning will be 'on-the- job’. Candidates expected to have the aptitude and desire to progress swiftly to the post of Consultant and more senior positions within the company at a pace which will be determined by the development of their skills and their contribution to the development of the company. Duties may include: Data analysis (qualitative as well as quantitative); Primary research; Drafting text for reports; Drafting Power Point presentations; Helping to develop business cases; Contributing to board evaluations, Undertaking research related to governance issues and board effectiveness; Drafting text for use in proposals; Developing working processes and organizational structures. Key relationships: Founder/CEO; Marketing Manager; Clients; Prospective clients; Business partners. Person specification: We are seeking individuals who share our values and commitment to quality and success. Candidates should be highly motivated and be creative and critical thinkers. We are a start-up where nothing is perfect and set in stone. It is essential that candidates love being in an environment where they can make their mark. Candidates need to have good written and verbal communication skills, and are keen to achieve a more senior position in a growing company over time. Candidates will ideally also be highly computer literate, with experience in data collection, Power Point design and analysis. Candidates are expected to be self-disciplined, well organised and to be able to present themselves in a professional manner. A personal interest in, and commitment to, governance issues and board effectiveness is expected. Essential: Educated to at least degree level (and perhaps a post-graduate qualification as well) in relevant discipline, or with practical background or experience relevant to the job description (for example experience in a Company Secretariat, Law Firm or Management Consultancy); Good verbal and written communication skills; Excellent all-round IT skills; Proven organisational skills, working in a calm, logical way to achieve tasks within set deadlines; Excellent skills in data collection, management and analysis; Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with multiple colleagues, peers, and external clients; and A methodical and rigorous approach with a high level of attention to detail. Ability to think creatively and independently and to take initiative to solve problems. And on a personal level: You can motivate yourself to work independently and fit well in a start-up environment where nothing is perfect and needs to be created; and You are confident and enthusiastic, and able to inspire others and enjoy working hard to make a difference. Benefits Starting salary of £23,500 to £34,500 /year depending on qualifications and experience Successful candidates will have the opportunity to participate in an Option Poo. Holiday Entitlement of 25 days per year (plus Bank Holidays) rising by 1 day for each full year of service to a maximum of 30 days per year.
