The public sector client is looking to recruit a Integrated Database Management System (IDMSX) DBA, for a 9 month temporary contract. The Please Note: This assignment sits inside of IR35. We are looking for talented and enthusiastic individuals with a working knowledge of the ICL Integrated Database Management System (IDMSX). As an IDMSX DBA you will be responsible for the management and maintenance of critical national infrastructure within our VME Estate. You will work with us on one of the largest transformation programs in Europe, providing services that have far-reaching and pivotal roles in citizens’ lives. You and your role: You’ll be working in the DBA Capability which sits in the BPDTS Engineering & QA Practice but provides leveraged services to IT Service Management and other areas of the DWP Business. As an IDMSX DBA, you will be primarily responsible for the ongoing maintenance and support of a series of IDMSX- based production, pre-production and disaster recovery databases, but will also be involved in design and build activities to support projects and programmes that deliver DWPs extensive and challenging Welfare Reform Change Programme. The role will involve providing 1st and 2nd line Production Operations DBA support; to quickly resolve user incidents. You will also be involved with standard daily DBA activities including but not exclusive to; monitoring and tuning, backup and recovery, database sizing/capacity management, problem determination and resolution and technical documentation. The location and working hours are flexible and a successful applicant can be based out of Newcastle, Blackpool, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield or London Specific Responsibilities Include: • Administer support and maintain IDMSX database services running on a VME platform • Monitoring live database growth & performance • Database Recovery • Consistency Checking • Database Design / Change • Database Structure Changes • Out-of-hours work in support of deployments / releases of new functionality. • Support the business in efforts to improve service / performance. • Provide specialist technical database support and assistance: o To projects ensuring delivery of requisite non-functional requirements o Continual service improvement o Technological roadmaps o Resource management Essential Skills: • In depth experience in the administration of IDMSX • Proven experience working as a Production DBA supporting: o IDMSX principles o IDMSA physical/logistical structures o Data manipulation language o Data compilation/retrieval • Proved experience of impacting, testing and applying patches and version upgrates to IDMSX/COBOL databases • Extensive experience in performance tuning at the database and application level • Strong experience with VME environments with skills in SCL System Control Language and OMF Object Module Format Clearance: BPSS minimum The successful candidate will have a valid DBS or be willing to apply for one on CV submission.
