Overview

Rutherford Briant are recruiting for a Senior Accountant working with our client, a leading independent distribution firm based in South Essex. The role has been made available due to internal promotion and has the scope to evolve and develop furhter over time. The position will report into the Financial Controller and have its own responsibility of managing a small team of accountancy staff. Required Skills Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop a rapport with colleagues at all levels Good written and oral communication skills, able to communicate complex financial matters to non-technical experts Excellent commercial finance background with strong planning, analytical and modelling skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage conflicting priorities Summary of Duties As Senior Accountant your objectives will be: To implement and ensure that key financial controls are operating effectively. To ensure that the company achieves best practice in terms of complying with all current accounting, legal and tax obligations. To provide guidance regarding all technical accounting, statutory and tax matters so far as they affect the organisation. Taxation Responsibility for ensuring that there are no tax related compliance failures, assembling data for quarterly and annual tax filings and assisting with calculation and payment of quarterly corporation tax instalments. Preparation of corporation tax computations and submission to external tax advisors. Taking ownership of capital allowance review process, R&D tax credit claim, risk and control framework and risk and control matrix. Making calculations of corporate interest restriction and other tax related issues. Ensure compliance with anti-avoidance legislation e.g. IR35 Financial management and control Make recommendations based on financial reporting, provide analysis and advise on potential implications of such changes in accounting policies and legislations as well as tax and government rules. Provide Technical advice and guidance to Senior Management Statutory accounts and audit Prepare individual statutory accounts for all entities within the Group, along with the consolidated accounts. Ensuring that the final management results reflect the statutory results and that appropriate audit trails are kept. Liaising with the Financial Controller to prepare all workings to support the year end accounting balances. Liaising with auditors to ensure the final approved statutory accounts are correct and delivered on a timely basis in accordance with Navigator requirements. Key contributor to the external audit processes, ensuring that the relevant bodies are supplied with information as required and within the agreed timetable. Post year end statutory reserve adjustments to management accounts. VAT Responsible for review of group VAT returns and overall responsibility for ensuring correct VAT compliance. Policies - Take ownership of periodic review and update of all Navigator financial policies including authority levels. Ownership of tax policies and procedures complementing the tax strategy and risk matrix. Qualifications and Experience: Qualified ACA/ACCA/ACMA or similar professional accounting qualification. Desired Previous Experience: Very good knowledge of both IFRS / FRS Experience of owning and producing statutory financial statements from start to finish Strong understanding of business taxation - Payroll Tax, VAT, CIS, Corporation Tax etc Experience of producing corporation tax returns Advanced knowledge of Advanced Excel Demonstrable experience in creating financial strategies, modelling results and model future financial scenarios Experience of working with staff at all levels in an organisation.
