Careers that Change Lives A new exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Finance Manager / UK&I Controller to join us in Watford. In this role you will report to the UK&I CFO and will lead the UKI Controller’s staff to ensure a strong, consistent control environment with accurate reporting for purposes of USGAAP and Statutory reporting. As a Senior Finance Manager / UK&I Controller you will provide guidance, strategic insights and demonstrate advanced in-depth knowledge in the accounting and finance activities associated with complex technical accounting matters. In this role we would like you to demonstrate agility and strong communications skills while partnering across the Medtronic Matrix, including the business, functions, regional teams, shared service centre teams and BPO. This role is a member of the EMEA controller’s council and will have dotted line reporting into the EMEA Controller. Day in the Life Main responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Demonstrate a broad and in-depth understanding of Accounting and Finance processes and policies for USGAAP, Irish GAAP and UK GAAP. Provide oversight and direction to the local Finance organization for all accounting and reporting matters, including the following to ensure compliance with accounting principles and MDT processes, legal and ethical standards: Subject Matter Expert on Financial Processes, Subject Matter Expert on local taxes, Complex arrangements, new novel business models, Revenue Recognition matters, Restructuring activities, Business Development and Channel Management matters (if applicable), Adherence and Subject Matter Expert to Medtronic financial policies, Adoption of new Medtronic financial policies, including assessment of future changes in accounting standards, Non-recurring activities such as restricting activities, annual tax reporting, etc. Ensure continuous improvement in collaboration with regional and global partners (SSC/BPO). Be the Medtronic finance representative for all local authorities / agencies in UKI, including external auditors, tax authorities, advisors, etc. Maintain a strong focus on financial accuracy, including P&L and balance sheet reviews. Liaise with Regional Finance, including being an active representative on the EMEA Controller’s Council and supporting EMEA wide projects. Partner with the business, financial analysts and enabling functions in a broad range of business issues, education of Medtronic financial polices/processes and as needed provide leadership in the decision-making process. Organize and structure business information to identify specific risks and opportunities. Apply quantitative and qualitative factors, skills and business experience, to arrive at meaningful conclusions and recommendations. Develop innovative alternatives and solutions when issues arise. Provide leadership and direction to a team of professional staff while effectively influencing the broader UK&I finance team. Must Haves Fluency in English, both spoken and written. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Finance or equivalent. Qualified accountant educated to degree level. 10 years varied experience in accounting or finance with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting; or 8 years varied experience in accounting or finance with a Master’s Degree. 5 years of progressive leadership experience. Solid proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint. Comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), UK and Ireland Statutory regulations, UK Senior Accounting Officer Regulations. Continuous improvement mindset.
