Overview

The Opportunity Macildowie Marketing are working with a very well-known B2C brand in central London to hire a Head of External Communications to provide interim support for a 12 month maternity cover contract. This role will play a crucial part in supporting and managing the External Communications/PR workstream. You will lead the strategic approach and delivery of PR activities for several business areas and cross-divisional functions, in order to support their business objectives and the enhancement of their reputations with external stakeholders. This role will take more of a focus on pro-active projects than crisis communications and would suit candidates with strong media relationship management skills and ideally an agency mindset, either with a pure agency background or a blend of agency and in house experience. You will work within an established framework/team dedicated to providing more efficient ways of working to support a growing global business. In communications, there are pockets of excellence across the team but there is a great opportunity to become more consistent, more collaborative and more efficient. Key Responsibilities -Take the lead in the coordination of the strategic approach and delivery of PR activities for key business areas and including being the key point of contact and providing updates to clients as required, as well as delivering to budget if appropriate -Handling press office activities (i.e. media enquiries, delivery of proactive media plans, coordination with retained agencies, circulation of relevant coverage, drafting of press releases, statements) and other materials for external use according to the needs of the clients, inclusive of relevant approvals -Become a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing advice on External Communications and PR, with a particular focus on media relations and reputation management -Support communications directors / other clients to advise and embed consistency of narrative and tone of voice as appropriate into their external communications -Bring discipline, rigour and consistency across external communications/PR, including preparations of 'tool-kits', guidelines, and other documents to be effectively cascaded and distributed -Ensure that all external facing communications materials are produced as required (speeches, press releases, company fact sheets, etc.) and in keeping with the company's style guideline and listed status requirements -As required, arrange and attend press interviews and other forms of media engagements for clients, including preparation of briefing materials -Ensure timely monitoring of press coverage is effected and oversee its distribution to clients as required Manage and work with PR / external agencies as required to achieve business goals Key Requirements -Extensive experience in external communications/PR or journalistic background, and ideally experience working for an agency -Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written. Speed essential in drafting copy -Extensive experience of overseeing the delivery of PR activities to support complex business projects -Clear, considered and timely decision-making and problem-solving skills; ability to analyse a situation quickly and consider the risks and opportunities, providing clients with effective counsel aligned with their business goals -Strategically minded, well organised conceptual thinker with the ability to turn complex and competing messages into simple communication -Attention to detail and accuracy and dedication to deliver to the highest standard -Good interpersonal skills with stakeholder at all levels and a strong team player -Confident, agile and calm under pressure in a fast pace environment Macildowie is a specialist recruitment consultancy with a rich history of enhancing the careers of professionals across the Midlands and the Northern Home Counties.
